Job Openings Head of Avionics

About the job Head of Avionics

We are looking for a Head of Avionics to lead the definition, development, and long-term evolution of advanced avionics and autonomous systems architecture for next-generation aerospace platforms.

This is a senior technical leadership role at the core of our engineering organization. The role is focused on system architecture ownership, cross-domain integration, and engineering maturity at scale, rather than operational or administrative management.

You will be responsible for defining the technical backbone that enables scalable, mission-ready, and productized aerospace systems.

About the Role

As Head of Avionics, you will shape how complex aerospace systems are designed, integrated, and evolved across their full lifecycle — from concept to deployment.

You will lead the architecture that connects:

Electrical systems
Embedded software
Control systems
Middleware layers
Autonomous decision-making systems
Your work will directly influence the reliability, scalability, safety, and intelligence of aerospace platforms.

Key Responsibilities1. Avionics Architecture Ownership

Define and own the end-to-end avionics systems architecture strategy
Establish a structured layered architecture (hardware firmware middleware autonomy)
Define system-level design principles including redundancy, fail-safe behavior, and fault tolerance
Ensure architectural consistency and scalability across multiple aerospace platforms
Drive long-term technical roadmap alignment with product and mission requirements
2. System Engineering Leadership

Lead electrical, embedded software, and systems engineering teams at architecture level
Provide technical direction for complex multidisciplinary engineering challenges
Mentor senior engineers and elevate system design maturity across teams
Enforce disciplined architectural decision-making and engineering governance
Bridge gaps between hardware design, embedded implementation, and software systems
3. Productization & Scalability

Transition avionics systems from prototype stage to scalable production-ready platforms
Design reusable and modular system architectures for future platforms
Reduce technical debt through structured design frameworks and standardization
Enable seamless integration of custom-built systems and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) components
Ensure systems are designed for long-term maintainability and evolution
4. Autonomy & Advanced Systems Integration

Architect avionics systems capable of supporting advanced autonomous operations
Define clean, robust interfaces between hardware, software, and autonomy layers
Lead system-level integration strategy across distributed engineering domains
Ensure real-time performance, reliability, and safety in autonomous environments
Support development of intelligent, adaptive aerospace systems
5. Safety, Compliance & Certification Alignment

Ensure adherence to aerospace safety-critical standards, including:
DO-178C (Software)
DO-254 (Hardware)
ARP4754 (System Development)
Integrate certification readiness into architecture from early design stages
Collaborate with quality and compliance teams to ensure audit-ready systems
Minimize certification risk through structured engineering practices
6. Team & Technical Delivery Leadership

Lead and coordinate cross-functional avionics engineering teams
Track technical execution, progress, and system delivery milestones
Implement structured project and program execution practices
Ensure alignment between engineering output and system-level objectives
Foster a high-performance, technically strong engineering culture
What We Are Looking For

10+ years of experience in aerospace avionics (UAV, defense, or commercial aerospace)
Proven experience in end-to-end avionics system architecture and development
Strong background in embedded systems, electrical systems, and autonomy integration
Deep understanding of safety-critical aerospace development environments
Experience with MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering) and system architecture tools
Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams or complex programs
Strong exposure to aerospace certification and compliance processes
Core CompetenciesTechnical Strengths

System architecture design in complex aerospace environments
Embedded systems and real-time systems expertise
Autonomous systems integration
Safety-critical engineering design principles
Strong system-level thinking and abstraction capability
Leadership Attributes

Strategic thinking with long-term technical vision
Ability to influence across engineering disciplines without authority dependence
Strong ownership mindset with accountability for system outcomes
Ability to align engineering execution with product and mission strategy
Strong communication across technical and leadership stakeholders
Why This Role Matters

This role defines the core intelligence and nervous system of our aerospace platforms.

You will be shaping how avionics systems are architected for:

Reliability in mission-critical environments
Scalability across future platforms
Integration of autonomy and intelligence
Long-term product evolution and engineering maturity
Your decisions will directly influence the future architecture of advanced aerospace systems.
