Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Earthwork Estimator (also referred to as a Civil Construction Estimator) with 5 - 10 years of proven expertise in estimating and bidding for construction and excavation projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of earthwork processes, and hands-on experience with industry-standard takeoff and estimating software. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for site development and earthmoving projects, working closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure all bids are competitive and aligned with project specifications.

Position Details

Location: Onsite (Hybrid Option Available)

Salary: $150,000 $180,000 per year (DOE)

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to prepare accurate and competitive earthwork estimates.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using takeoff software for cut/fill, grading, trenching, and related activities.
  • Utilize HCSS HeavyBid and other relevant tools to develop comprehensive cost estimates and bid proposals.
  • Collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, and subcontractors to gather cost data and scope details.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure complete coverage of project scope.
  • Prepare bid packages and submit final proposals on time.
  • Review historical data and project outcomes to refine future estimates and improve accuracy.
  • Provide input on constructability, risk assessment, and value engineering.
  • Stay updated with market trends, material pricing, and labor rates.
  • Maintain well-organized estimate records and documentation for future reference and audits.
  • Proficiency in HCSS (HeavyBid), HCSS HeavyJob, and industry-standard takeoff software (e.g., Agtek, Trimble, Bluebeam).
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (not mandatory with strong relevant experience).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
