The Senior Composites Officer at West Wales is a new position within the recently created Tekever Defence Business Unit.

Tekever Defence is responsible for the development and delivery of Tekevers capability offering to the Defence market. The Tekever Defence Business Unit is split into six main departments Engineering, Capability, Futures, Operations, Delivery and BD & Commercial.

The West Wales site is an integral part of Tekever Defence Business, as part of the new Defence Engineering division. The divisions core role is to work alongside the wider Tekever enterprise to design and manufacture new and innovative capabilities that address critical needs for NATO Defence markets.

As first and foremost a technology company, Tekever invests its own resources to develop new products for the defence market that are offered on a COTs or MOTs basis. The division is planned to be co-located between West Wales and Bath.

The West Wales site provides Tekever Defence with the capability to customise and modify platforms to meet specific customer requirements and undertake live flight tests and demonstrations within segregated airspace.

The site comprises five primary teams; Composites Production, Integration and Repair, Research and Development; Flight Operations and Support.

As a senior member of the Composites Team, you will be responsible for planning and overseeing the delivery of daily operations of the composite area, ensuring that composite schedules are met efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. You will work with the Head of Composites to optimise workflows, and addressing any operational issues to achieve departmental goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Leadership:

o Provide leadership and direction for junior composites staff;

o Lead, mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and performance;

o Supervise and coordinate the activities of Composite Officers to ensure the smooth running of manufacturing processes:

  • Lead, mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and performance;
  • Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback, conducting performance reviews and probation reviews where necessary.

o Foster a positive team environment that encourages open communication, collaboration and professional growth;

o Undertake additional duties as required by the business.

- Composite Production Planning & Execution:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Composites Production to develop daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules;
  • Ensure production targets are met by effectively managing resources including: personnel, materials, and equipment;
  • Identify and troubleshoot production issues to minimize downtime and delays;
  • Identify and mitigate risks to composite production, facilitating problem solving and decision-making processes in order to minimise downtime and delays;
  • Work with the Head of Composite Production to ensure that production targets are met by effectively managing resources including: personnel, materials, and equipment.

- Quality Control:

  • Work with the Head of Composites to implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that all composite products meet specifications and industry standards by monitoring production processes and conducting regular inspections;
  • Implement corrective actions when quality issues arise, working closely with the Quality Control team to maintain high standards.

- Health & Safety:

  • Work with the Head of Composites to ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and protocols to the production team;
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, ensuring that personal protective equipment (PPE) is used correctly by all staff;
  • Report and investigate any accidents or near-miss incidents, and implement preventive measures.

- Inventory & Stock Control:

  • Oversee the use of raw materials, ensuring efficient stock usage and minimizing waste;
  • Work closely with composite officers to ensure that stock levels of materials and components are maintained to meet manufacturing needs.

- Process Improvement:

  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve production processes, increasing efficiency while reducing waste and costs;
  • Work with Head of Composites to implement new processes, techniques or other process improvements as identified by management.

- Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate manufacturing records, quality checks, procedures SWPs and any issues encountered;
  • Provide regular reports to the wider Tekever Team on production performance, including KPI tracking and production analysis.

This is a wide-reaching role with a high degree of autonomy and authority. You will be entrusted and empowered to deliver and will need to be comfortable working in a highly demanding environment. Above all you will need to be an innovative thinker you will have a passion for solving problems and a drive to see your ideas to fruition. You will also be a fast learner and need to quickly develop and champion a comprehensive understanding of Tekevers core technologies and products.

You will have a proven track record in supervisory roles within composite production teams. You will have a strong understanding of production processes, cross-functional team management and will foster a people centric approach that balances agility and systematic rigour. A technical education at degree level will be a benefit but not essential; critical however is your ability to quickly build a strong team with a powerful ethos.

Whilst the role will be situated within West Wales, you may also expected to travel to other locations in the UK, Portugal and Europe.

Essential Competencies:

  • A strong, proven background with experience in composite production teams;
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team toward achieving production targets;
  • Excellent analytical skills to quickly identify production issues and implement effective solutions;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple production activities simultaneously;
  • High standards for quality control and a meticulous approach to ensuring processes are followed;
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined KPIs, and delivering continuous improvement within an operational environment;
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including COSHH and risk assessment practices;
  • Clear and concise communication skills for liaising with team members, management, and other departments and proven experience of cultivating a great work environment.
