We currently have a role as a Senior Linux Systems Administrator with our large consulting client, working onsite at a major financial services client in the downtown Montreal area.
Role: Cybersecurity - Senior Linux Systems Administrator
Type: Permanent or Contract 40 hrs/week
Location: Hybrid - Downtown Montreal, QC -(roles starts off 5 days in office for 1st 3 months, then turns into hybrid setup 3 days onsite, 2 days from home)
Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 + 9% bonus + 3-5 weeks paid vacation + RRSP contribution + benefits + sick/personal days
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work as an integral member of an agile-organized team delivering Unix operational support and infrastructure projects
- Follow up on client requests and incidents, acting as a trusted business partner with full transparency and accountability
- Participate in Follow-the-Sun support, covering Europe and Asia
- Propose innovative, scalable, and industrialized solutions to automate repetitive tasks and improve overall team efficiency
- Actively participate in enterprise-wide automation initiatives by collaborating with multiple feature teams
- Manage activities in accordance with ITIL framework (Change Management, Incident/Request Management)
- Onboard team operational routines and participate in planned overtime operations at least once per month
- Work closely with the Bangalore-based Level 1 support team to continuously optimize service delivery
- Strengthen expertise in agile practices, with Scrum at the core of team organization
- Contribute to API design and development to automate IT operations (strong Python expertise required)
- Collaborate in the design and delivery of feature team products, providing technical insight and architectural perspective
- Support a large-scale environment of 2,500+ servers
REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory
- Advanced expertise in Linux Server Operating Systems (RHEL): administration, lifecycle management, hardening, and performance tuning
- Strong troubleshooting skills at kernel, process, memory, and I/O levels
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Zabbix, Prometheus, custom health checks)
- Development and scripting skills (Python, Bash, Ansible, Puppet)
- Experience with production-grade automation, API integrations, and tooling
- Knowledge of volume management (LVM, multipathing) and filesystem tuning (XFS, ext4)
- Puppet expertise: modular design, Hiera, environment management, large-scale configuration enforcement
- Experience with cloud-based technologies (hybrid architectures, provisioning, integration)
- Proficiency with Red Hat Identity Management (IdM), LDAP integration, authentication and authorization workflows
- Knowledge of enterprise hardware (HP/DELL x86), including firmware, BIOS, RAID
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP and related services (LDAP, DHCP, DNS, SMTP, NFS) and troubleshooting of complex dependencies
- Experience with enterprise backup platforms (e.g., NetBackup), restore validation, and disaster recovery readiness
- Knowledge of SAN, Fibre Channel storage, NFS, and multipath I/O configuration
- Understanding of high availability clustering and failover mechanisms
- Experience with patch management, compliance, and vulnerability remediation
- Strong skills in incident root cause analysis (RCA) and production problem management
- Experience contributing to open-source projects (e.g., GitHub), including code reviews and documentation
- Bilingual (required)
Nice to have
- Experience with Red Hat Satellite (content views, lifecycle environments, patch management at scale)
- Knowledge of Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash) for centralized logging
- Experience with Software Factory tooling (e.g., Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines) and Continuous Delivery practices
- Knowledge of OpenStack (compute, networking, storage, operations)
