We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Boston, MA. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives on learning, solving complex engineering challenges, and optimizing mechanical systems. The position focuses on proprietary chemical process equipment design, specification, optimization, troubleshooting, and procurement. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, with a primary focus on static process equipment such as heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
Responsibilities

Design and specify chemical process equipment in compliance with ASME, API, and other industry codes and standards.

Perform pressure design and heat transfer calculations to optimize system performance.

Collaborate with chemical, instrumentation, and piping engineers to develop innovative equipment designs.

Prepare technical bid evaluations, review vendor documentation, and work closely with vendors throughout fabrication and delivery.

Provide engineering support on-site and at fabrication shops through occasional travel.

Use analytical software and industry standards to define equipment designs.

Conduct failure reviews of existing equipment to recommend upgrades, remedies, and replacements.

Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or higher.

Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience.

Strong technical knowledge of industrial equipment, particularly process heat exchangers and pressure vessels.

Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent design software for developing equipment design drawings.

Experience in reviewing and approving design drawings created by others.

Prior experience liaising with clients in a support or lead engineering role.

Familiarity with industry codes and standards, such as:

ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)

B31, TEMA, ASTM & API standards

Basic understanding of metallurgy, welding, and fabrication processes.

Strong analytical skills with experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using ANSYS or similar tools.

EIT or PE license, or willingness to obtain.
