JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Patient Care and Support
Preparation and Comfort: Prepare patients for dental procedures, ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease before surgery.
Education and Guidance: Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients, explaining the procedures, aftercare, and answering any immediate questions.
Patient Monitoring: Monitor patients' conditions during procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
Follow-Up: Assist in coordinating post-operative appointments and manage follow-up care as needed.
2. Clinical Assistance
Instrument Preparation and Sterilization: Sterilize and prepare dental instruments, ensuring they are ready for each procedure.
Chairside Assistance: Assist the dentist or oral surgeon during procedures by handing instruments, suctioning, and providing necessary tools.
Maintaining Aseptic Conditions: Ensure that the treatment area remains sterile and complies with infection control standards throughout the procedure.
Preparation of Treatment Room: Set up and maintain the surgical area and equipment before, during, and after procedures.
3. Administrative Tasks
Appointment Scheduling: Manage patient bookings, reschedule appointments, and communicate any changes to patients.
Records Management: Accurately document patient information, procedures performed, and maintain patient records for reference and compliance.
Inventory Control: Monitor and order dental supplies, ensuring that the clinic remains stocked with necessary materials for surgeries.
Billing and Insurance Assistance: Coordinate with patients and insurance companies regarding billing and coverage for surgical procedures.
4. Technical Support
Radiography Assistance: Take and develop X-rays if qualified and certified to do so, ensuring accurate imaging to support treatment planning.
Equipment Handling: Operate, monitor, and maintain dental surgery equipment like autoclaves, suction machines, and dental chairs.
Assist with Digital Records: Input patient data into digital records systems and assist with digital tools that aid in surgery planning and documentation.
5. Compliance and Safety
Infection Control: Follow clinic policies on infection control, cleaning, and sterilization to maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff.
Health and Safety Protocols: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and implementing waste disposal protocols.
Compliance with Legal Standards: Stay updated with dental and healthcare regulations, ensuring the clinic operates within local and national standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1-2 years of experience as a Dental Assistant, preferably in a surgery or clinical setting;
Chairside Assistance Experience: Experience assisting with a variety of dental procedures, especially surgeries, is highly desirable.
