Prototyping Engineer (Rover)
Associated Supervisor: Chief Deployment Demonstrator Mission (DDM) Engineer
About the Position: During our Tumbleweed Deployment Demonstrator Mission (DDM), the first ever mission to show the working principle of our rover in a high altitude drop, a highly iteration-focused design approach is used to design the Tumbleweed rover’s mechanisms with high reliability and performance. As a fully-fledged Mars Mission is approaching, Team Tumbleweed has reached a critical point in which our cutting-edge technology is being developed at a high magnitude of complexity and intensity.
As a Prototyping engineer you are required to have a strong hands-on approach, a well-versed understanding of mechanisms and a creative and motivated mindset to contribute to the development of robust and reliable prototypes.

Excellent written & spoken English
Willingness for continuous learning and personal development
Hands-on experience with tools and prototype development and integration
Experience with 3D Printing
Experience with CNC-Milling (CAD & CAM)
Good with structured design approach
Good documentation and reporting skills
Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
Expected commitment of at least 1.5 years and approximately 15 hours per week
Responsibilities:
Manufacture, assemble and test mechanisms
Together with the Testing Engineer execute various tests, including functional, performance, stress, and integration testing.
Iterate and build prototypes for new rover components
Collaborate with your colleagues in the design/engineering team to refine and optimize prototypes based on prototyping/testing/integration results.
Document results and prototype designs.
