About the Position: We are seeking an innovative (Lead) CDH Engineer to take charge of the design, implementation, and optimization of command and data handling systems for the Tumbleweed Rover Demonstrator Mission. As a fully-fledged Mars Mission is soon approaching, Team Tumbleweed has reached a critical point in which our cutting-edge technology is being developed and tested at a high magnitude of complexity and intensity.
As the Lead CDH Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring robust communication, control, and data management for the success of the mission.

  • Experience in designing and implementing Command and Data Handling systems for space exploration missions

  • Strong understanding of onboard computing, communication protocols, and fault-tolerant system design

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • Expected commitment of at least 1.5 years and approximately 15 hours per week

  • (Lead) Leadership experience and the ability to lead a small team of engineers effectively

Responsibilities:

  • (Lead) Oversee the development of trajectory plans for the Tumbleweed Rover EDL phase

  • (Lead) Regularly update the project leads on the development of mission plans.

  • Develop the Command and Data Handling system architecture for the Tumbleweed Rover, considering mission requirements, communication protocols, and control interfaces.

  • Collaborate with our GSE engineers to develop and implement reliable communication protocols for command transmission between ground control and the Tumbleweed Rover.

  • Implement fault-tolerant strategies within the CDH systems to ensure the robustness of the Tumbleweed Rover's operations.

  • Establish comprehensive testing protocols for CDH systems, including functional testing, performance validation, and simulation testing.
