THE ROLE

A fund accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of investment funds, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.c

JOB DESCRIPTION

Information management and fund administrator liaison

  • Oversee all aspects of information sharing with, and reviewing/reconciling the output from, the external fund administrator.

Interest calculations

  • Interest calculations in accordance with loan facility agreements
  • Collaborate with the investment team to understand the interest rate structure and fee provisions outlined in each loan facility agreement
  • Prepare and send borrower interest confirmation emails

Bank Account Management

  • Reconcile fund bank accounts on weekly basis
  • Monitor receipt of investor subscription money for capital calls
  • Ensure the timely receipt of borrower interest, following up on any overdue payments.

Month-end process

  • Process month-end journal for interest and fee revenue, accruals, prepayments, investor transact
  • Calculate management and performance fees payable to GCI
  • Generate Recipient-created tax invoices for management and performance fees payable to GCI
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and key P&L balances, ensuring queries and reconciling items are followed up and resolved
  • Reconcile Net Asset Value calculations, distributable income and month end unit prices to the external fund administrators calculations.

Tax compliance

  • Calculation of withholding tax on payment to foreign investors
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly Instalment Activity Statement (IAS) and Business Activity Statements (BAS)
  • Process journal to correctly record Withholding Tax, Business Activity Statement and Goods & Services Tax

Audit support

  • Assist with audit queries and preliminary review of annual financial statements

Regulatory reporting

  • Assist in preparation of annual APRA reports

Accounts payable

  • Monitor Accounts inbox for fund invoices payable and invoices payable received from the investment team
  • Prepare payment instructions for payment of fund-related expenses.

Fee rebates

  • Calculation of fee rebates payable to investors and employees by GCI
  • Generate statements to all fee rebate recipients.

Compliance administration

  • Assist with compliance-related tasks such as sending out periodical attestations, compiling responses and following up on any outstanding items.

Projects and continuous improvements

  • Assist with further automation of month end process
  • Contribute to process and control improvements across the finance function

KEY REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will:

  • A minimum of 5 years prior experience in a fund accountant role with an investment manager, fund administrator or custodian;
  • be a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA);
  • knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards or US GAAP;
  • have strong skills in MS Office suite, particularly excel;
  • experience with Xero accounting software is desirable but not essential.
