Position Focus

This is not just a general marketing roleits for someone who will take full ownership of

SEO strategy, implementation, and ongoing performance. They should be capable of

replacing a third-party SEO agency, meaning they need both strategic and technical

expertise.

Core Skills & Responsibilities

Strategic SEO Management

  • Develop and execute the companys SEO strategy for both on-page and off-page
  • optimization.
  • Conduct SEO audits and create actionable improvement plans.
  • Stay current with Google algorithm changes and industry best practices.
  • Identify new keyword opportunities and content strategies to improve rankings.

Technical SEO

  • Optimize site architecture, crawlability, and indexing.
  • Manage site speed optimization and Core Web Vitals improvements.
  • Implement schema markup and structured data for rich results.
  • Monitor and resolve technical issues (404 errors, redirects, duplicate content).

On-Page SEO

  • Optimize meta titles, descriptions, headers, and internal linking.
  • Guide content creation with SEO-focused briefs for writers.
  • Ensure all new pages and blogs are SEO-friendly from launch.

Off-Page SEO

  • Build and maintain backlink strategies.
  • Outreach for guest posting and PR-based link building.
  • Monitor link health and disavow toxic backlinks.
  • Analytics & Reporting Track and report on keyword rankings, organic traffic, and conversions.
  • Use tools like Google Analytics, Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Moz.
  • Create monthly SEO performance reports for leadership.

Tools & Platforms They Should Know

  • Google Search Console
  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
  • SEO Tools: SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, Screaming Frog, SurferSEO, or similar.
  • CMS Platforms: WordPress, HubSpot, or whichever you use.
  • Google Tag Manager (optional but highly valuable).

Experience & Background

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on SEO experience (in-house or agency).
  • Proven record of growing organic traffic and improving keyword rankings.
  • Ability to work independently and manage the entire SEO lifecycle.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with content marketing and PPC to collaborate with other marketing channels.
