Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the installation and maintenance of Database Management System Software and design/ implementation of simple to complex Database changes on all Data Center, departmental and remote database servers. - 20%
  2. Ensures reliable, continuous access to Enterprise Database Systems Software of PPG computer system users and complying with agreed service levels. - 20%
  3. Responsible for designing the detailed steps in the implementation of high impact projects that target to improve current database systems availability and efficiency while continuing to leverage on existing infrastructure and pursuing alternative methods that will prove more cost effective. - 20%
  4. Responsible for the analysis/ evaluation of DB performance reports and capacity data, coding, configuration/ design, testing and documenting simple to complex system scripts/ programs. - 20%
  5. Plan solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up and recovery. - 20%

Scope and Limitations:

  1. Ensure efficient operation of all Database Management Systems (DBMS) in all server platforms in the Data Center thru analysis of information from database management tools and DB monitoring software utilities, elevating issues, performing corrective action and recommending long term solutions.
  2. Evaluate, implement and test required Database alterations (whether corrections, new implementations or performance enhancements) to DBMS to accommodate additional or maintain application data in the production and development servers.
  3. Formulates and recommends actions to be taken for customer servicing to ensure consistent and uniformed delivery of service
  4. Ensures the efficient and effective delivery of the company's products and services through its rendered assigned functions and services
  5. Handles difficult situations that affects several units of ITD and its customers, providing solutions and appropriate action to satisfy and address all concerns
  6. Utilizes defined and/or adhoc methods, executed in an orderly manner in providing solutions for exceptions and other situations that have issues/concerns
  7. Provide input and advice in the development and delivery of the company's products and services considering the assigned functions and services delivered and handled
  8. Able to associate and relate the business and technical aspects of the company's products, services and operations to ensure the efficient utilization of resources
  9. Requires an adaptive and creative thinking to provide decisive and alternative approaches in process, procedures and guideline formulation as well as in the area of problem solving
  10. Responsible for the resources managed and operated within the associates assigned area with direct impact in the delivery of the company's products and services that directly affect end users and customers
  11. Evaluate and analyze DB performance reports, resource utilization and DB System error reports from all DB Mgmt Systems in Data Center Servers for DB tuning and trending. Prepares and submits the various database monthly reports.
  12. Review, evaluate, and recommend application of Database Software release updates, module fixes, and security patches to improve DB performance and minimize impact to internal users in HO and Branches.
  13. Review Database Designs and Codes with Project Team to adhere to required DB designs and ITD standards and improve performance and data integrity.
  14. Review definition of DB Access authorizations for Production and Development users to ensure integrity and security of corporate data across all server platforms. Ensures DB privilege accounts are protected from unauthorized use.
  15. Coordinate updates, restoration, testing and clean up of System wide Database backups and review recovery procedures in the Business Recovery Center Facility.
  16. Perform post-problem analysis and recommend long-term solutions to existing procedures, parameter set-up, DB designs, and application programs SQL codes.
  17. Conduct knowledge sharing sessions with members of the team in order to share best practices on database design, development and optimization.
  18. Develops and formulates complex procedures, guidelines and programs/ scripts/ SQL codes on operations of specific Database Servers for system availability, recoverability, reliability and security. Ensures that programs and scripts created provide solutions to process issues.
  19. Design project status report and all other project collaterals needed to update PMO documentation to support the launching of high impact projects focusing on improving current database systems infrastructure
  20. Coordinate with other ITD Specialists to ensure that projects that will require cross over activities between units will all be performed within the timelines set and with minimal impact to each others project directives
  21. Design the required backout scenarios for all changes related to the implementation of special projects and generate the needed backout procedures to be followed for each case
  22. Conduct Training to ITD Personnel (engineers, operators, programmer), and other employees on use of different Database Environments.
  23. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements Must be a graduate of an I.T./ Computer Science or related Engineering or Technology Course
  • Experiential Requirements Must have at least 3 years of exposure in I.T. Database Admin/ Tech. Support / Design related work.
  • Required Interpersonal Skills: Must be a good team player with a customer-oriented attitude and good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Required Technical Skills: 

           a. Must possess good skills in problem solving and analysis and project planning. 

           b. Must be knowledgeable in the advanced use of PC Software and Utilities such as: 

              - MS Office Suite Excel, Word, PowerPoint 

              - Web browsers Internet Explorer 

              - MS Windows OS installation and operation of utilities 

          c. Knowledgeable in Advanced Computer Concepts and Operations 

              - Computer Architecture and Database Architectures 

              - Structured Programming / Analysis/ Design 

              - Relational Database and Hierarchical Database Design  

          d. Must have advanced knowledge in the following: 

              - Operating System Concepts - Linux, Windows 

              - DB Tools / Customization - DB2 Studio Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Enterprise Manager 

              - Languages (advanced coding)- DB2 SQL, MS-SQL 

              - Utilities/ Usage - Linux-Based Utilities, FTP, VI, Editors 

              - Runtime Environment Usage/ Customization Java and IIS 

              - DB System/ File Customization - DB2 for Linux, MS- SQL Server 

              - Email/ Productivity Tools Customization - Email software
