Senior Power BI consultant (remote)

Job Overview:

Successful utilization of Power BI depends on high-quality data management. We are looking for seasoned lead consultants with strong expertise in Power BI and data handling. Candidates should have advanced skills in Power BI and its data components, including PowerQuery/M, DAX, and dimensional modeling, along with foundational report design capabilities. Experience with SQL Server (covering data warehouse architecture, SSIS, SSRS) and DirectQuery is a plus. A solid understanding of Power BI licensing options and ability to advise clients on optimal licensing strategies is essential. Experience with Databricks for building and optimizing data pipelines and workflows is required. Excellent communication skills are crucial for collaborating effectively with clients, their teams, and technical specialists such as database developers and software engineers. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a good understanding of both technical and business intelligence concepts, and a commitment to keeping up with Power BI updates. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct discovery meetings to understand client reporting needs
• Guide clients on Power BI licensing options, explaining the advantages and constraints of each
• Design and develop star schema data models with calculated columns and measures
• Create Power BI solutions by importing data from various sources, developing reports, dashboards, and data elements using DAX and query tools
• Assist clients in deploying Power BI solutions to the Power BI service, including gateway setup, DirectQuery, data flows, and refresh configurations

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience
• Over 5 years of experience with data and business intelligence solutions using Microsoft tools (such as SSRS, Power BI, PowerPivot, PerformancePoint) or other BI platforms (like Business Objects, MicroStrategy, Qlik, SAP)
• Proficiency in TSQL, data modeling, and reporting with Power BI or similar tools
• Proven track record of designing comprehensive, interactive Power BI reports with drilldowns and nested parameters
• Advanced skills in creating dynamic measures with DAX
• Experience with data mashups and transformations via Power Query/M
• Hands-on experience with Databricks for developing and optimizing data workflows
• Ability to select appropriate visualizations and design interactive report interfaces
• Skilled in requirements gathering and conducting focus groups to enhance business processes

Preferred Additional Experience:

• Managing Power BI tenants and workspaces for development, testing, and deployment
• Developing custom visualizations and analytics using Python or R within Power BI
