Job Summary:
The Field Maintenance Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance and support to field technical teams. This role ensures that all technical specifications and maintenance requirements are effectively communicated and understood. The Engineer assists in resolving complex technical issues in the field under the guidance of senior technicians.
Job Duties:
- Assist in selecting materials, equipment, and procedures for mechanical analyses and repairs.
- Apply knowledge of applied mechanics, mechanical and construction testing, and optical transmission to diagnose and assist in handling complex technical problems.
- Review site acceptance documents to ensure network operations are safe and efficient; provide recommendations to the Field Maintenance Director.
- Advise on planned maintenance schedules and hardware adjustments; support supervisors on infrastructure maintenance standards.
- Utilize expertise in optical transport, cable infrastructure, and wireless mechanical power constructions to optimize outcomes.
- Serve as primary on-site technical advisor during maintenance assignments as required.
- Coordinate with internal teams and third parties to maintain quality standards.
- Interpret detailed engineering drawings for equipment modification and removal.
- Develop mathematical models for RF communications distribution systems.
- Manage commercial wired and wireless communication projects using planning software.
- Provide technical support for cable placement, terminations, and splicing of optical fiber and copper.
- Offer input and apply intermediate to expert knowledge in physical, data-link, and network protocols, routers, switches, and system architecture.
- Implement and monitor status monitoring systems.
- Demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing and resolving technical problems.
- Assist in developing and executing preventive maintenance schedules.
- Use precision testing equipment for maintenance activities.
- Service, test, inspect, and repair various equipment types including electrical and mechanical systems.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and site configurations.
- Assist in re-arranging operational sites to meet technical department standards.
- Collaborate with deployment teams on site acceptance processes and material management.
- Coordinate with monitoring sections to optimize team performance and problem-solving.
- Troubleshoot network failures and outages, providing on-call support as needed.
- Read, interpret, and analyze system/network design maps; recommend and verify network changes.
- Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber optic cable as required.
- Support continuity plans and disaster recovery efforts.
- Recommend network coverage improvements to engineering and assist in their implementation.
- Maintain inventories of test equipment and transmitters.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, or Telecom Engineering or related field.
- Experience: 0-2 years' experience in an Engineering, ISP, or Telecom Maintenance role.
