Our Client is the pioneer of the EdTech industry and the only Sequoia Capital-backed EdTech company in Bangladesh. They are teaching more than 2 million students every day through their website, app, and social media to accelerate their learning.

Their goal is to ensure access to quality education for everyone in Bangladesh through a wide range of free and premium content in the formal education and upskilling segment.

The VP of Engineering is in charge of the backend, mobile engineering, web application, software quality assurance, and site reliability engineering teams. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

About Engineering

The goal of the engineering team is to deliver an unparalleled learning experience through stellar content distributed via a state-of-the-art platform. Our backend follows the microservice pattern with services written in JS and Golang. Our web application uses the Next.JS framework. Both our Android and iOS apps are Native. Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS and deployment is maintained through Kubernetes. We use both PostgreSQL and MongoDB.  The product and design teams work very closely with the engineering team in the ideation, development, testing, release, and maintenance of the product.

Primary Responsibilities

• Recruit best-in-class product engineers with an outcome-driven builder mindset.
• Create ample opportunities for the team to consistently learn and grow.
• Maintain a workplace environment that feels challenging and not threatening.
• Practice a culture of enablement: celebrate successes and discuss failures to drive ownership and accountability.
• Monitor and optimize engineering processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness balancing fast-paced startup dynamics with product quality.
• Practice customer-obsessiveness in maintaining quality, scalability, and security of the technology platform.
• Work with product, design and customer-facing teams to understand product requirements and maintain the backlog.
• Ensure best practices around technologies, frameworks, design patterns and make critical architectural decisions balancing time-to-market, quality and costs.
• Manage the budget and resources for the engineering team.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field (e.g., mathematics, physics), or equivalent practical experience. A Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum 9 years of experience in professional software engineering.
• Experience building developer products or third-party platforms.
• Experience with technical innovation and leading organizations of engineers.
• Experience in developing a shared goal and ways of working that inspires teams to collaborate together.
• Ability to lead through influence, both with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to recruit and develop technical talent, and to inspire/motivate the engineering team to work together as a cohesive and productive unit.
• Passion for technology and technical depth to uncover root causes of technical problems and provide guidance on solving them.
• A Founder mindset, passionate about problem-solving and innovating in the EdTech space.

Employment Structure

Onsite in Mohakhali DOHS | Full-time

Salary: BDT 200,000 - 300,000

Benefits: Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)

Work Week: Sunday - Thursday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
