About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Matrimonial Associate Attorney to join a well-established Family and Matrimonial Law practice in New York City. This role is ideal for a skilled litigation attorney with 7 to 8 years of matrimonial and family law experience who is comfortable managing complex divorce and family law matters from inception through resolution. The successful candidate will have extensive courtroom experience, strong client counseling abilities, and the confidence to independently handle motions, discovery, depositions, hearings, and trials while working collaboratively with a high-performing legal team.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in all phases of matrimonial and family law litigation, including contested and uncontested divorce matters.
  • Independently manage a diverse caseload from initial client consultation through settlement, trial, or final judgment.
  • Draft, review, and argue motions, orders to show cause, pleadings, affidavits, and legal memoranda.
  • Conduct all aspects of discovery, including document production, interrogatories, subpoenas, and financial disclosure.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial proceedings.
  • Conduct depositions and examine witnesses during hearings and trials.
  • Appear regularly in New York State courts for conferences, oral arguments, evidentiary hearings, and trials.
  • Develop litigation strategy and negotiate favorable settlements on behalf of clients.
  • Advise clients on matters involving equitable distribution, child custody, parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance, and post-judgment enforcement.
  • Analyze complex financial documents, business interests, executive compensation, and marital assets.
  • Collaborate with financial experts, forensic accountants, valuation professionals, and opposing counsel when necessary.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and strategic legal counsel.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and legal staff as appropriate while contributing to a collaborative practice environment.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission and good standing with the New York State Bar.
  • 7 to 8 years of experience practicing matrimonial and family law.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing contested matrimonial litigation.
  • Extensive courtroom experience, including conferences, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
  • Strong experience handling motions, discovery, depositions, witness preparation, and trial advocacy.
  • Experience negotiating complex divorce settlements and custody agreements.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and drafting skills.
  • Excellent client counseling, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience handling high-net-worth divorce and complex asset distribution matters.
  • Familiarity with business valuations, executive compensation, trusts, and closely held business interests in divorce proceedings.
  • Experience working with forensic accountants, custody evaluators, and financial experts.
  • Mediation or collaborative law experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience mentoring junior attorneys.
  • Strong business development skills and the ability to cultivate long-term client relationships.
