As a Safety Technician at Talent Source, you will play a crucial role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment in shipyard operations. Below are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:
Responsibilities:
- Conduct safety inspections and audits of shipyard facilities, equipment, and work areas to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety policies, procedures, and programs to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
- Provide safety training to employees and contractors on topics such as hazard recognition, fall protection, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with specific tasks and develop controls to mitigate risks.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, shipyard safety standards, and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training activities, incident reports, and other safety-related documentation.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to address safety concerns and promote a culture of safety.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in occupational safety and health.
- Assist in emergency response and crisis management activities, including evacuation drills, fire prevention, and first aid response.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in occupational safety and health, preferably in a shipyard or maritime environment.
- Knowledge of shipyard safety regulations, including OSHA regulations, NAVSEA standards, and industry best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate safety concepts and procedures to diverse audiences.
- Ability to conduct safety training sessions and presentations to groups of employees and contractors.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex safety issues and develop practical solutions.
- Certification or training in occupational safety and health, such as OSHA 30-hour General Industry or OSHA 500 Trainer certification, preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Physical ability to conduct safety inspections and assessments in shipyard environments, including climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
