As a Structural Welder at Talent Source, you will play a crucial role in fabricating and welding structural components for marine vessels within the shipyard environment. Below are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine welding requirements and procedures.
- Set up welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding machines, and select appropriate welding techniques and parameters based on material type, thickness, and joint configuration.
- Fabricate and weld structural components, such as hulls, bulkheads, decks, and superstructures, using various welding processes to achieve quality welds and structural integrity.
- Perform weld inspections and quality control checks to ensure welds meet specified standards and tolerances, including visual inspection and non-destructive testing methods.
- Operate cutting equipment, such as plasma torches, oxy-fuel torches, and saws, to prepare materials for welding and fabrication.
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during welding operations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other tradespeople to support integrated shipyard operations and achieve project objectives.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a structural welder or welder in a shipyard or maritime environment.
- Proficiency in welding techniques and processes, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, and ability to weld various materials, such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Knowledge of welding codes and standards, such as AWS D1.1, ABS, and NAVSEA standards.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards in welding and fabrication processes.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials and work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending.
- Certification or training in welding or structural fabrication preferred but not required.
