About the job Estimator
As an Estimator at Talent Source, you will play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates for shipyard projects and bids. Below are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:
Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, specifications, and technical documents to understand project requirements and scope of work.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify project details.
- Analyze project costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services, to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to calculate quantities, costs, and pricing for various project components.
- Prepare detailed takeoffs and material lists based on project requirements and specifications.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure competitive pricing and quality of materials and services.
- Identify and quantify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and develop contingency plans to mitigate risks.
- Present cost estimates and proposals to clients and participate in bid negotiations as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, bid documents, and project files.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to support purchasing activities and procurement strategies.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as an estimator in the shipyard industry or related field.
- Knowledge of shipyard operations, construction methods, and marine engineering principles.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting shipyard blueprints, technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform accurate calculations and estimates.
- Familiarity with estimating software and tools, such as RSMeans, HCSS, or Bluebeam, preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in estimating and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Professional certification in estimating or project management is a plus.
