About the job Deputy Legal Head (Mining)
Our client is a leading multinational coal mining company primarily involved in coal mining operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Legal Head in providing legal advice and support to the company's management and departments on various legal issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in the company's operations.
- Support the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the company's interests.
- Help manage and maintain a repository of all legal documents, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping.
- Support litigation and dispute resolution processes, working with external legal counsel when necessary.
- Assist in representing the company in legal proceedings, mediations, and arbitration sessions.
- Help ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and practices.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing board resolutions, minutes of meetings, and other corporate documents.
- Identify and assess potential legal risks, developing strategies to mitigate them under the guidance of the Legal Head.
- Conduct audits and assessments to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal matters and compliance issues.
- Liaise with external legal advisors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and representation of the company's interests.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and projects.
- Assist in leading and mentoring the legal team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Law is required; a Master's degree in Law or its equivalence is preferred.
- PERADI certified.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a combination of law firm and corporate legal roles, with significant exposure to the mining or natural resources sector.
- Proven track record of managing complex legal matters and providing strategic legal counsel.
- Strong understanding of international and local laws and regulations related to the coal mining industry.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- High ethical standards and professional integrity.
