Job Summary:

Our client, a large multinational conglomerate, is looking for an experienced Coal Procurement and Supplier Development Specialist with at least 5 years of proven expertise in coal sourcing. This role involves end-to-end management of supplier relationships, contract execution, and market analysis to support strategic trading decisions. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, an in-depth understanding of the coal market, and the ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supplier Development & Sourcing

    • Identify, develop, and manage coal suppliers to meet the needs of the trading desk and internal consumption.
    • Engage in sourcing activities to secure cost-effective, quality coal aligned with company standards.
  2. Contract Management

    • Supervise and execute contract terms, ensuring all conditions are met.
    • Negotiate with miners, traders, and other relevant parties to fulfill contract requirements efficiently.
  3. Market Analysis & Strategy Development

    • Participate in weekly market fundamentals and analytics discussions to support the development of trading strategies.
    • Stay updated on market trends, movements, and supply forecasts to anticipate supply-demand mismatches.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, buyers, inspection agencies, vessel agents, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless contract execution and delivery.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Cost Efficiency: Achieve purchase prices that are competitive with market benchmarks for similar grades.
  • Quality Control: Minimize variation between contractual quality specifications and actual shipments.
  • Compliance: Ensure all contract terms align with the company's SOP and risk management framework.
  • Market Insight: Demonstrate strong understanding of market movement and forecast supply mismatches.
  • Supplier Development: Successfully establish and onboard new mines/suppliers to expand sourcing options.
  • Risk Mitigation: Ensure all sourcing contracts comprehensively cover potential risks.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain relationships with all inspection agencies and key stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in coal sourcing, procurement, or trading within the coal industry.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Analytical mindset with a solid understanding of market dynamics and risk management.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
