Our Employer is seeking a highly skilled Moderation & Compliance Specialist to lead the national moderation programme and drive excellence across assessment and quality assurance practices.

As part of the Quality Support team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring this organisation meets all internal and external quality standards, supporting moderators, assessors, and internal teams to deliver consistent, compliant, and high-quality assessment outcomes.

About the Role

In this leadership-focused role, you will:

Lead Annual Moderation Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual moderation plan.
  • Ensure all internal and external requirements, including NZQA, WDC/ISB, and CMR obligations are met on time.
  • Plan and oversee all moderation activities (cluster, peer, panel, onsite etc.).

Drive Insights Through Moderation Analysis

  • Design effective systems to analyse data, identify trends, and manage risks.
  • Deliver bi-annual moderation reviews and prepare action plans to support best practice and improvement.
  • Share insights and outcomes across the organisation to build awareness and celebrate success.

Champion Continuous Improvement

  • Implement recommendations from moderation reviews.
  • Track improvements and ensure non-verified assessments are resolved within required timeframes.
  • Use insights to identify and promote enhancements in assessor practice, resources, and training.

Manage and Develop Moderators

  • Oversee the contract moderator pool, including recruitment and capability development.
  • Provide training, calibration, feedback, and support to ensure consistency and adherence to national standards.

Lead and Support People

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the Moderation & Compliance Coordinator.
  • Allocate tasks, conduct performance reviews, and support capability development.

What You will Bring

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 5 years experience in tertiary or vocational education quality assurance.
  • Diploma-level qualification in Adult Education or Quality Assurance.
  • Completion of Unit Standards 11551, 11552, and 4098.
  • Strong background in planning, conducting, and evaluating moderation activities.
  • Proven experience in assessing and managing compliance and quality assurance risks.

Skills & Attributes

  • In-depth knowledge of NZQA regulations, CMR requirements, and quality assurance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical capability with a solutions-focused approach.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and collaborate across teams.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
