Catering Supervisor

 Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Are you passionate about the welfare of staff and visitors in an organization setting, We are seeking an experienced Catering Supervisor to oversee and manage the kitchen operations within at one of our clients,  a leading manufacturer and distributor of Pharmaceutical products in Uganda. You will not only involve in hands-on meal preparation but also strategic planning, budget management, and maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and hygiene.

Reporting to: Human Resource Officer

Number of Direct Reports: Six (6) staff

Location: Kampala - Uganda


POSITION PURPOSE

To oversee and manage kitchen operations including the preparation, production, and distribution of meals and refreshments within the company while ensuring high standards of quality, efficiency, and hygiene in line with Group Human Resource Management Manual, KCCA regulations and the Public Health Act of Uganda.

JOB ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS

Planning and Management

  • Develop and manage budgets for kitchen resources and materials

  • Monitor and manage Kitchen expenditures.

  • Manage inventory levels, maintain inventory records and coordinate with suppliers for timely procurement of ingredients and materials.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive daily operational plans for the kitchen to ensure smooth and efficient execution of all tasks.

Meal preparation

  • Actively participate in meal preparation/cooking and serving while ensuring adherence to recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.

  • Oversee the execution of daily menus while accommodating dietary restrictions or special requests.

  • Communicate to all team members updates on menu changes, special dietary requirements, or event-specific instructions for proper and timely execution.

  • Lead the team to ensure that all meals are prepared and served in time in line with company SOPs.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Monitor the cleanliness of the company cafeteria and kitchen by establishing and enforcing comprehensive cleanliness protocols and detailed cleaning schedules.

  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with KCCA standards and address any issues immediately.

  • Report equipment malfunctions, structural issues, food safety hazards, and requisition necessary kitchen resources.

  • Ensure that all kitchen operations and staff adhere to food safety protocols, operational procedures, and company policies.

People Management

  • Lead and mentor the catering team by setting clear expectations, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating ongoing training and development.

  • Schedule and allocate duties and tasks among kitchen staff.

  • Plan, coordinate and monitor kitchen operations to ensure adherence to service standards and operational procedures, and provide immediate, actionable feedback to address any issues or improvements.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and address any issues or concerns promptly to maintain high standards of service and teamwork=

KEY QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of Certificate/Diploma in Catering or related field

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in a busy catering establishment.

  • At least Two (2) years experience at a Supervisory or leadership level in a busy catering establishment

  • Experience in cooking Indian cuisine

  • Knowledge of food safety standards and practices.
