About the Role
Talent Foresight on behalf of her client (a leader in the Agrochemical Industries in the East African region) is seeking to recruit a passionate, organized, highly skilled, result-driven and experienced Farm Manager to oversee and optimize her 1000-hectare farm operations. The ideal candidate will develop strategies to expand production, enhance profitability, and ensure compliance with industry standards. They will have at least five years of experience growing crops like maize, soybeans, cassava, groundnuts and horticulture crops, while managing all associated operations. The successful candidate will oversee the farm's day-to-day activities, ensuring that production goals are met efficiently and effectively. This includes planning crop rotations, managing soil health, and implementing pest management strategies to maximize yield and reduce losses. This role requires strong leadership, effective resource management, and a passion for sustainable agricultural practices.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies to expand farm operations and increase profitability of the following crops; maize, soya beans, sorghum, cassava, groundnuts and horticulture crops.
Plan and implement a crop rotation system to maximize yields.
Manage budgets, resource allocation, and coordinate machinery, chemical use, irrigation, and labor within the farming area.
Collaborate with the agronomy department to ensure timely execution of pest, disease, and weed control programs, and secure agricultural inputs as needed.
Plan, manage, and monitor labor activities to ensure productivity and efficiency in the field.
Oversee inventory and ensure regular restocking of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other critical supplies.
Conduct post-season yield analysis to evaluate performance and provide recommendations to the directors.
Develop comprehensive farm management plans, including production schedules, resource allocation, and quality control measures.
Lead, manage, and coordinate farm staff, fostering teamwork and ensuring optimal performance.
Monitor and analyze production data to identify improvement areas and optimize yields.
Maintain full compliance with industry standards and certifications such as GlobalGAP, GRASP, and SMETA.
Qualifications and Requirements
A degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in farm management, focusing on crop production and operational efficiency.
Strong knowledge of crop rotation, pest control, soil health management, and modern agricultural practices.
Proven experience managing budgets, resources, and labor in a large-scale farming environment.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams.
Proficiency in analyzing production data and implementing improvement strategies.
Familiarity with industry regulations and certification requirements (GlobalGAP, GRASP, SMETA).
