The Role:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and social development of students with special needs in an elementary school setting. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to create a positive and effective learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Individual support: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Classroom integration: Assist teachers in adapting curriculum and instruction to meet the individual needs of students with special needs.
  • Social-emotional learning: Foster positive social interactions and emotional well-being among students with special needs.
  • Data collection and progress monitoring: Collaborate with teachers to track student progress and inform instructional decisions.
  • Communication and collaboration: Maintain effective communication with teachers, parents, and other professionals regarding student needs and progress.
  • Positive environment: Create a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters acceptance and inclusion for all students.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field (preferred) OR
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in special education within a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development and diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Adaptability, patience, and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Commitment to inclusivity and creating a positive learning environment for all students.
