Senior CAD Technician

The Senior CAD Technician is responsible for transforming conceptual and preliminary design information into accurate, complete, and compliant engineering drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools. The role supports engineering teams by producing high-quality construction documentation, ensuring adherence to project CAD standards, and supervising the work of junior drafting staff. This position plays a key role in drawing coordination, quality control, and timely delivery of project documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Design

• Prepare accurate and detailed engineering CAD drawings from sketches, markups, and design inputs.

• Draft complex electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical services drawings in accordance with project requirements.

• Produce field sketches and as-built drawings as required.

• Work with multiple drawing and model formats across different project stages.

Standards & Compliance

• Analyze, understand, and strictly adhere to project-specific CAD standards and drawing conventions.

• Ensure all drawings comply with approved design standards, specifications, and quality requirements.

• Interpret and apply project-specific drawing development and documentation guidelines.

Drawing Management & Quality Control

• Plan and deliver all drawings required for project submissions and final handover.

• Perform self-checks and review the work of drafting technicians to ensure accuracy and minimize rework.

• Assign, review, check, and evaluate drafting tasks performed by junior CAD technicians.

• Contribute to and follow procedures for drawing management, revision control, change control, naming conventions, and storage of electronic and hardcopy drawings.

Coordination & Communication

• Liaise with engineers and project team members to clarify drawing requirements and resolve ambiguities.

• Participate in departmental and project meetings, including technical and safety reviews when required.

• Support effective coordination between disciplines to ensure consistency across drawings.

Plotting & Documentation

• Create plot files, configure and operate plotters, and manage plotting, trimming, and distribution of drawings.

• Ensure drawings are properly formatted, labeled, and issued in accordance with project procedures.

Continuous Improvement

• Continuously enhance technical drafting knowledge and stay updated with CAD tools, standards, and best practices.

• Develop interpersonal and teamwork skills to support efficient collaboration within the project team.

• Undertake additional reasonable duties as assigned by the company from time to time.
