We're Hiring: Senior Contract Specialist

We are supporting our client by hiring an experienced Senior Contract Specialist to join their team.

Job Purpose Summary:

The Contract Specialist is responsible for managing all contractual and commercial aspects of construction and consultancy agreements within the company's capital projects. The role ensures that contracts are properly drafted, administered, and monitored throughout the project lifecycle. This position plays a key role in controlling project costs, managing variations and claims, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and project requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Contract Drafting & Review:
    • Draft and review construction, consultancy, and service agreements.
    • Ensure contract terms protect the company's commercial, legal, and operational interests.
    • Customize contract clauses based on project requirements.
    • Coordinate with Legal for review of complex or high-risk agreements.
    • Maintain consistency with approved contract templates and standards.
  • Tendering & Procurement Support:
    • Manage the end-to-end tendering process, including contractor pre-qualification.
    • Support preparation of tender documents and evaluation criteria.
    • Participate in technical and commercial bid evaluations.
    • Ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance in tender processes.
    • Coordinate with Procurement and Project teams during tendering activities.
  • Contract Administration & Commercial Control:
    • Monitor contract milestones, deliverables, and payment schedules.
    • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations by all parties.
    • Track financial commitments and contract performance.
    • Maintain a master register of contracts and financial exposures.
    • Support cost control and financial planning for projects.
  • Variations, Claims & Negotiation:
    • Manage and evaluate variations, change orders, and contractor claims.
    • Negotiate contractual adjustments to minimize financial impact.
    • Assess entitlement and validity of claims in line with contract terms.
    • Coordinate with project teams on change management processes.
    • Maintain proper documentation of all variations and claims.
  • Compliance, Risk Management & Dispute Resolution:
    • Ensure compliance with contract terms, insurance requirements, and performance bonds.
    • Monitor validity of insurances, guarantees, and warranties.
    • Identify contractual risks and recommend mitigation measures.
    • Collaborate with Legal to resolve contractual disputes.
    • Maintain audit-ready documentation for all contract activities.

Skills:

  • Technical / Functional Skills:
    • Contract drafting and administration (construction contracts).
    • Knowledge of FIDIC or similar contract frameworks.
    • Tendering and procurement processes.
    • Claims and variation management.
    • Commercial and financial analysis.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Law, or similar field.

Certificates:

Preferred Certifications include:

  • MRICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
  • PMP (Project Management Professional).
  • FIDIC training or certification.
  • Contract management certification.

Computer Literacy:

  • Computer literate.
  • Proficiency in:
    • MS Office (especially Excel).
    • Contract management systems.
    • Project management tools.

Languages:

English fluent.

Arabic is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 13+ years of experience in contract management within construction or capital projects.
  • Experience in FIDIC-based contracts or similar frameworks is preferred.
  • Experience in managing variations, claims, and tendering processes is essential.
