About the job Piping Inspector API 570
JOB Overview
Perform third-party inspection of in-service and new piping systems at Ras Laffan Industrial City. Verify compliance with API 570, ASME B31.3, and applicable client standards. Assess piping integrity, review inspection data, and provide authoritative inspection sign-off.
KEY DUTIES
Piping Inspection Execution
Inspect process piping systems for:
- Wall loss – internal corrosion, erosion, and flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC)
- Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) – especially on carbon steel and low alloy lines
- Mechanical damage – dents, gouges, cuts, and deformation
- Cracking – fatigue, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and thermal fatigue
- Perform external visual inspection of piping circuits, including pipe supports, hangers, and guides.
- Identify dead legs, stagnant zones, and other high-risk locations for corrosion.
Documentation & Record Review
- Review piping isometrics, P&IDs, and inspection history records.
- Verify line numbers, material specifications, design conditions, and service fluids.
- Cross-reference inspection data with previous records to identify trends.
NDT Witnessing & Acceptance
Witness and accept NDT inspections including:
- UT Thickness – spot readings, profile scans, and C-scan mapping
- Radiography (RT) – film interpretation for welds and corrosion
- Visual (VT) – for surface defects, fit-up, and coating condition
- Ensure NDT techniques, equipment, and personnel certifications meet code and client requirements.
- Review and accept NDT reports with sign-off authority.
Repair & Alteration Oversight
Review and approve piping repair/alteration procedures including:
- Weld repair procedures (WPS/PQR)
- Installation of repair sleeves or clamps
- Pipe replacement scopes
- Verify post-repair NDT and pressure testing (hydrotest/pneumatic) when required.
Corrosion Assessment & Remaining Life
Calculate corrosion rates using historical thickness data.
- Next inspection dates and intervals (per API 574)
- Inspection methods and locations for future campaigns
- Determine remaining life and recommend:
- Identify piping circuits requiring RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) reassessment.
Non-Conformance & Quality Control
Issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) for:
- Non-compliant inspection findings
- Substandard repairs or unacceptable damage
- Missing or incorrect documentation
- Follow up on NCR close-out and verify corrective actions are implemented.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory Certification
- Valid API 570 (Piping Inspector) certification – mandatory and active.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of piping inspection experience in oil & gas / petrochemical industry.
- At least 2 years of experience in in-service piping inspection (corrosion monitoring, CUI, damage mechanisms).
- Experience with new construction piping (witnessing hydrotest, NDT, and final sign-off) is an advantage.
Technical Knowledge
- ASME B31.3 – Process Piping (design, fabrication, inspection, testing)
- API 571 – Damage mechanisms affecting piping (CUI, HIC, SCC, etc.)
- API 574 – Inspection practices for piping systems
- API 578 – Positive Material Identification (PMI) requirements
Qualifications
- API 580 / 581 – Risk-Based Inspection
- CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI – Welding Inspector
- ASNT NDT Level II in UT or RT
- IRATA Rope Access Level 1 or 2
