About the Role:

We are urgently seeking an experienced Banksman / Fire Watcher to join our safety team in Qatar. This dual-role position is critical to maintaining safety during lifting operations and hot work activities on-site. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction or industrial safety, with the ability to enforce protocols, prevent hazards, and ensure a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Banksman Duties:

  • Guide crane operators and ground crews during lifting operations to ensure safe movement of materials and equipment.
  • Use clear and standardized hand signals to direct crane movements.
  • Ensure pedestrian and vehicle pathways are clear and secure during lifts.
  • Inspect lifting gear, slings, and equipment before use.
  • Coordinate with the lifting supervisor to execute lift plans safely.

Fire Watcher Duties:

  • Monitor hot work activities (welding, cutting, grinding) to prevent fire hazards.
  • Conduct pre-work inspections to remove flammable materials and ensure the area is safe for hot work.
  • Maintain and inspect firefighting equipment (fire extinguishers, hoses, blankets) at the work site.
  • Stay alert during and after hot work to detect and respond to any signs of fire or smoke.
  • Keep a fire watch log and report any incidents or unsafe conditions immediately.

General Safety Responsibilities:

  • Enforce company and client HSE policies on-site.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Report near misses, incidents, and hazards to the HSE officer.
  • Assist in emergency response and evacuation procedures when required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a Banksman and/or Fire Watcher in construction, heavy industry, or oil & gas.
  • Mandatory: Valid Banksman & Signalman certificate and Fire Watcher training certificate.
  • Preferred (a plus): IOSH, NEBOSH, or Qatar-approved safety certificate.
  • Ability to understand and follow lift plans, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Strong communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage).
  • Valid QID or transferable visa preferred (or willingness to relocate under company sponsorship).
