About the job Legal Counsel

This London based bank are looking for a Legal Counsel to join their London office (hybrid working). You will be supporting the Head of Legal and Deputy Head of Legal with the provision of legal services to the Bank and its subsidiaries on all matters which affect the business of the organization including transactions, commercial and regulatory matters, and any litigious matters that may arise from time to time. You will ensure that legal services to the wider Bank in relation to trade finance matters which are in English and which are subject to English law or standard international trade finance rules.


Responsibilities will be broken down to 4 key areas:

  1. Transactional - Provide effective and accurate legal advice (on English law) and support for The bank in relation to transactions and assist in the structuring of transactions; Provide support in relation to trade finance transactions to the wider bank Group
  2. Litigation - In relation to The bank, the legal department will advise senior management on the merits and likely cost of litigation contemplated by The bank and advise on the procedure (including alternative dispute resolution) to be followed and where appropriate, oversee the conduct of such litigation
  3. Regulatory - Provide advice in relation regulatory related legal matters including the Capital Requirements Regulation, Data Protection (GDPR/UK GDPR) and outsourcing.
  4. General - Decide when it is appropriate to engage external lawyers; select lawyers having the relevant specialization from the panel of lawyers set by The bank, Monitor performance of relevant external lawyers and manage legal costs with a view to maintaining a balance between low costs and effective (and where necessary, expert) legal representation, ensure cost control procedures are implemented in each case;


Experience Required

  • Experience as Legal Counsel
  • Experience within a bank / trade finance environment
  • Experience across Transactions / litigation & Regulation

This role will be based in London / hybrid working and will pay up to £100k per annum + benefits.
