Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) / Advanced Practice Provider – Surgical Services

Location: New York (NY)
Schedule: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM, with on-call requirements (nights, weekends, and holidays)
Employment Type: Full-time

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a skilled Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) or qualified Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA-C) to support surgical services. This role is ideal for a highly trained perioperative professional with strong clinical expertise, precision, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced surgical environments.

You will play a critical role in assisting surgeons during procedures while also contributing to comprehensive preoperative and postoperative patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient history and surgical plans prior to procedures
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile surgical field, including instrumentation and supplies
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping
  • Collaborate with surgeons, registered nurses, and surgical technologists to ensure smooth workflow
  • Provide intraoperative support, including:
    • Exposure of operative site using retractors and instruments
    • Controlling bleeding through clamping, ligation, or cauterization
    • Handling tissues, suturing, and wound closure
    • Suctioning, irrigating, and maintaining a clear operative field
  • Assist with robotic, laparoscopic, and minimally invasive procedures
  • Monitor patient status under the direction of the surgeon or anesthesiologist
  • Apply dressings and assist with patient transfer to recovery
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and materials are properly accounted for
  • Accurately document procedures and intraoperative observations
  • Participate in postoperative care, including patient assessment and wound care

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Nursing or related healthcare field
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in perioperative or surgical services
  • Active and valid New York (NY) credentials in one of the following:
    • CRNFA (Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant)
    • Nurse Practitioner (NP)
    • Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C)
  • Certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (for PA candidates)
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and perioperative best practices
