About The Job

The scope of the Central Test Engineering team spans hardware and software, and across Engineering and Operations as the team that knows the secrets to successfully shipping high-volume consumer products while balancing engineering and operational priorities.

In this role, you will be in one or all of the following product families: Virtual Reality (VR),

Wearables, Phones, Laptops, and Home. You will own one of the key consumer satisfaction metrics such as functional performance of the device.

As a key member of the cross-functional team that will launch the product, you are an integral part of Google's hardware success.

You will manage the testing of the functional performance of camera devices and use your camera/optics/computer vision expertise to develop multiple machine-learning based automatic optical inspections stations for production lines.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in engineering with a focus on Computer Vision or Camera, or equivalent practical experience.
  2. Experience with image processing, image quality evaluation or computer vision algorithm development.
  3. Experience with Python or Java.

Preferred qualifications:

1. Experience with Computer Vision, Camera Devices, or a related field.

2. Experience with image processing, computer vision or machine learning algorithms including image registration, segmentation, classification, object detection, supervised/unsupervised learning.

3. Experience in building and testing consumer electronic products for manufacturing including DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFT (Design for Test).

  1. Experience with camera/optics testing, image sensor technology, camera system bring-up, and design validation with ISP algorithms.
  2. Experience in building machine learning powered automatic-optical-inspection systems including hardware, software, and algorithms.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain factory test stations with a focus on camera and/or automatic optical inspection solutions for production lines from New Product Introduction (NPI) to Mass Production (MP) stage.
  2. Understand and be able to debug the computer vision or image processing algorithms to investigate camera and/or assembly failures.
  3. Perform failure analysis of the build data (e.g., yield, overkill, escape rate) to improve the detection algorithm accuracy and stabilize station hardware setup involving camera optics and lighting conditions.
  4. Work with Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), Joint Development Manufacturer (JDM) and Contract Manufacturer (CM) partners to maintain the full test station including both hardware and software to production lines.
