About the job Mechanical Design Engineer
Summary:
Responsible for full-cycle mechanical design and development of precision electronic modules, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and vendors. Key focus areas include 3D modeling, DFM/DFA, thermal/tolerance analysis, and support through prototyping and production.
Role Summary:
The Design Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end mechanical design and development of precision electronic modules, such as sensors, hard drives, and camera assemblies, in a high-reliability manufacturing environment. This role involves concept development, 3D CAD modeling, thermal and structural analysis, prototyping, and collaboration with global cross-functional teams and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design of electronic modules (e.g., sensors, hard drives, digital cameras, etc.) from concept to production release.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems to ensure form-fit-function alignment.
- Utilize simulation tools to model and validate mechanical performance, including structural, thermal, and kinematic analysis.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Assembly (DFA) to meet volume production and cost targets.
- Document BOMs, ECOs, and release drawings according to company standards.
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation processes, iterating designs as necessary to achieve performance targets and quality standards.
- Ensure adherence to project timelines and cost constraints, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Support manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams in production ramp-up and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- More than 7 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in [relevant industry, e.g., consumer electronics, automotive. robotics, etc.].
- Strong proficiency with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, CATlA, Creo) and simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD).
- Hands-on experience with prototyping and manufacturing techniques (e.g., CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication).
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and leadership skills.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of applicable mechanical standards and regulatory requirements. Experience with tolerance analysis, thermal/structural simulations.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of quality systems such as IATF 16949 is a plus.
- Background in design for reliability and lifecycle optimization.
