About Supply Chain Resources Group (SCRG)

Supply Chain Resources Group (SCRG) is the execution partner for the world's most innovative hardware companies. We help everyone from the biggest tech companies to the most promising start-ups design, implement, and manage their product manufacturing supply chain. SCRG provides manufacturing and supply chain advisory services, vendor management services, and highly skilled technical resources in the world's major manufacturing centers. From prototypes and early-stage New Product Introduction (NPI) to full high volume mass production, our teams bring speed, clarity, and control to complex global supply chains.

Role Overview

As a Staff Electrical Design Engineer, you will be part of SCRG's engineering team supporting one of our clients, a medical device company developing Class III products. You will lead the design, development, verification, and validation of complex medical device electronics, from concept through manufacturing transfer. Board-level design is at the heart of this role: it combines deep technical expertise in analog, digital, and high-voltage board design with strong leadership in cross-functional project execution.

You will drive hardware bring-up, system integration, and verification activities; manage critical vendors; and collaborate closely with the client's Systems, Mechanical, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, contributing to design reviews, and supporting commercial-stage manufacturing and field activities, with SCRG providing technical oversight and support throughout the engagement.

This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, with a planned move to Redwood City, CA within the year. The team is in the office every other week, Tuesday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Board-Level Design: Deliver board-level designs, including analysis, schematics, and PCB layout, for Class III products with sensitive analog front-end circuits, sensors, power, and high voltage.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead electrical design work-streams within multidisciplinary projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and deliverables are met, and drive technical decisions that balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Development & Verification: Develop and characterize designs through bench testing, system integration, and supporting test fixtures; dry-run engineering tests; and conduct and guide design verification test protocols.
  • EMC/EMI & Compliance: Support EMC/EMI testing and compliance activities, including preparation, execution, and troubleshooting, to ensure designs meet applicable IEC standards such as IEC 60601.
  • Component Qualification & Sustaining Engineering: Qualify critical alternate components, develop designs with components selected for cost reduction or obsolescence, and support the qualification of alternate suppliers.
  • Failure Analysis & Documentation: Perform failure analysis, including field failures, and document investigations, design descriptions, and engineering analysis to support Manufacturing, Quality, and manufacturing scale-up.
  • Manufacturing & Commercial Support: Support commercial-stage activities, including manufacturing support and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, and manage critical vendors.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide technical support to Systems, Mechanical, Firmware, and Manufacturing Engineering, and align design activities with project milestones and product requirements.
  • Peer Review & Mentorship: Provide peer review of designs and documentation, and mentor junior engineers as the team grows.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: MSEE or BSEE with 10+ years of analog electronics design experience.
  • Mixed-Signal & High-Voltage Design: Electrical design, test, and sustaining experience for products with microprocessors, FPGAs, analog, and high-voltage electronics.
  • Power Electronics: Power electronics design experience, and familiarity with component and PCB/FPC design practice for up to 2,000V.
  • ECAD & Layout: Experience with Altium, PADS, or other ECAD tools, and with PCB, FPC, and rigid-flex design and layout standards.
  • Bring-Up & Embedded Debug: Experience with board bring-up, debug, and integration of embedded systems, including the ability to modify and compile C code for microcontrollers to support hardware testing.
  • Product Lifecycle & Manufacturing: Good understanding of product lifecycle management from concept through production, including manufacturing follow-up, DFM, and DFT, and experience working directly with PCB fabricators and assembly contract manufacturers.
  • Medical Standards: Familiarity with medical device standards, verification to those standards, and QMS requirements for Class III medical devices.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of digital signal processing concepts for electrophysiology and other sensor data.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards and high-voltage isolation.
  • Familiarity with low-power circuit design and with circuit and system simulation techniques.
  • Project leadership experience, including coordinating multiple disciplines from concept through manufacturing transfer.
