About the job Supplier Development Engineer- FATP

As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will provide the manufacturing capability to deliver high-quality hardware products to our users. You will evaluate product designs and create the processes, tools, and procedures for them.

You will also work with vendors who build parts for our products by ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You'll collaborate with Commodity Managers, Design Engineers, and cross-functional teams to determine Google's product needs and product specifications.

You'll also work to ensure the various pieces of Google's hardware fit together perfectly and keep our products working smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Design, Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability, Product Operations to deliver Google Hardware products to market.
  • Use statistical process control, yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), establish reasonable specifications with PD/ID, and drive process improvements in partnership with cross functional teams.
  • Setup quality control plans, measurement SOP alignment, ensure correlation between sites, and track down the root cause of measurement discrepancies in IQC, to ensure the smooth flow of parts into CM (contract manufacturer).
  • Be the first level go­-to person for material quality/reliability issues at FATP/IQC/Supplier. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp.
  • Ownership for supplier's quality, drive MIL (Master Issue List)/quality improvement for quality, yield and cost.

Minimum Qualifications (MQs)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years or above experience in launching high volume projects.
  • Good communication skills, including written English and Mandarin communication. Be able to speak English to present your own deliverables.
  • Experience of vendor management and Ability of assembly process development (laser welding, assembly fixture design, assembly TA analysis, assembly automation development), Process capability study & 2D drawing review.
  • Demonstrated record of Functional testing setup (air leak test), assembly line qualification and driving yield improvements during ramp up for high volume, high complexity parts.

Preferred Qualifications (PQs)

  • Experience of mechanical part manufacturing processes including: CNC (Computer numerical control), molding, Polishing, PVD, Sandblasting, Anodization, Sub-Assembly.
  • Mechanical part end-to-end quality management, including manufacturing process CTQ (critical to quality) identification, quality control plan setup, execution and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability of project management, problem solving with experiments design, root cause analysis and statistical process control.
  • Demonstrated sense of ownership, detail oriented, organized and hands-on.
  • Comfortable working in a globally distributed team.
