Job Openings AI Electric Engineer

About the job AI Electric Engineer

Success Matcher is partnering with an early-stage hardware and AI company building intelligent DC power distribution infrastructure for the next generation of AI data centers.

This team is developing advanced power electronics and intelligent power management technology to support that transition. We're looking for a hands-on Power Electronics Engineer to join as an early engineering hire, working directly with the founder to turn early-stage prototypes into deployable hardware for initial design partners.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of real hardware, shape core engineering decisions, and help build foundational technology in a rapidly evolving industry.

What You'll Do

  • Design advanced power systems: Develop 800V-class DC power conversion, switching, and distribution systems using modern power semiconductor technologies such as Silicon Carbide (SiC).
  • Own hardware development: Take electrical systems from early prototypes through simulation, laboratory bring-up, debugging, testing, and validation.
  • Model and simulate: Use SPICE, PLECS, or similar tools to evaluate circuit performance, thermal behavior, and overall system characteristics.
  • Lead hands-on testing: Bring up and characterize high-power hardware, troubleshooting switching behavior, timing, sensing, and protection systems.
  • Leverage AI in engineering: Use AI tools, LLMs, and agents to accelerate circuit design, simulation, testing, and iteration.
  • Coordinate hardware execution: Work with external partners on PCB fabrication, component sourcing, and packaging.
  • Drive engineering tradeoffs: Balance performance, thermal management, reliability, and manufacturability to deliver functional hardware quickly.
  • Help establish technical foundations: Collaborate closely with the founder to define engineering processes, product direction, and the company's early hardware architecture.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience designing, prototyping, and testing power electronics systems.
  • Demonstrated ownership of hardware development from initial prototype through a validated, working system.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and the ability to reason through electrical, thermal, and mechanical tradeoffs.
  • Experience with SPICE, PLECS, or comparable circuit simulation tools.
  • Hands-on experience designing gate drivers for fast-switching power electronics architectures.
  • An Electrical Engineering degree or demonstrable equivalent aptitude in power electronics.
  • Practical use of AI tools, LLMs, or agents to improve engineering design, simulation, or testing workflows.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Detroit, Michigan, or relocate to the area.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status; visa sponsorship is not available.

Why Join?

  • Founding-level ownership: Help establish the technical direction of an early-stage company and influence core product decisions.
  • End-to-end engineering: Take real hardware from concept and simulation to laboratory testing and customer-ready prototypes.
  • High-impact technology: Work on power infrastructure designed for the growing energy demands of AI data centers.
  • Direct founder collaboration: Work closely with company leadership in a small, hands-on engineering environment.
  • AI-native engineering: Apply emerging AI tools to practical hardware design and development challenges.
