Our client is a fast-growing, AI-powered banking and cash management platform built specifically for high-growth consumer brands doing $5M–$200M in sales. By automating complex treasury and FP&A work that finance teams usually have to grind through manually, they are completely changing how AI influences modern corporate banking.
Having recently raised $42M from top-tier venture capital investors like FirstMark and Mayfield, they are scaling rapidly. With around 48 employees and billions in customer GMV already flowing through their platform, they are looking for a sharp, self-directed operator to join them as their Founding People & Talent Operations Hire in Toronto.
The Role: People and Talent Operations Manager
As the first official HR hire, you will own the entire people function across both Canada and the U.S. This is a high-impact, greenfield opportunity where you will transition the company from ad hoc workflows to highly structured, scalable systems. If you thrive on building structure out of ambiguity and want to own a foundational workstream at a hyper-growth startup, this role is for you.
What You Will Do
Build the Foundation: Stand up and maintain structured employee onboarding and offboarding processes from scratch (including offer letters, I-9s, compliance, and legal frameworks).
Own Operations: Manage payroll, contractor payments, and benefits administration seamlessly across both U.S. and Canadian entities.
Ensure Compliance: Stay ahead of employment laws and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions as the team scales past 40+ employees.
Support Talent: Partner with the hiring team to manage the ATS (Ashby), coordinate candidate pipelines, and collaborate with external recruiters to keep the talent engine running smoothly.
Establish Policy: Author and enforce company-wide HR policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) tailored for a scaling tech environment.
What You Bring
Experience: 3–5 years of dedicated experience in People Operations, HR, or Talent Operations, ideally within a fast-paced tech startup.
Cross-Border Knowledge: Hands-on experience managing payroll, benefits, and compliance across both Canada and the United States.
The "Builder" Mindset: A proven track record of creating processes where none existed, rather than just executing someone else's playbook.
Tech Savvy: Familiarity with modern recruitment and productivity tools. Experience with Ashby and generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude) is highly preferred.
Proximity: Ability to work full-time (5 days a week) from our client's collaborative downtown Toronto office.
