JMS Group employs 45+ staff undertaking civil & structural engineering designs and has been serving the Construction Industry for over 25 years.

We have an opening for an Apprentice Structural Engineer to join our team at our Ipswich office to undertake designs on a variety of projects, from small domestic extensions to large, multi-storey apartment and office developments. Working alongside colleagues within the local office as well as those in other parts of the Group, you will be encouraged to develop your design experience and skills and be supported to obtain accreditation to the Institute of Structural Engineers.

With project costs up to £12m and the use of the latest design software, the role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in impactful, high-value projects. A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with the importance of this role within our company.

Responsibilities

  • Complete apprenticeship programme of learning and modular work predominantly in the workplace as well as attending external training courses to compliment learning.
  • Develop knowledge of varying building techniques and materials used.
  • With support interpret Engineers design briefs, and with support and supervision, undertake design analysis and compiling reports in compliance with British Standards and Euro-codes.
  • Utilise knowledge, and initiative to identify solutions providing feedback and contributing ideas within team.
  • With direction and supervision, conduct site inspections and gather relevant data in order to compile comprehensive reports.
  • Maintain records and work folder, ensuring all work is checked appropriately.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with both internal and external clients building and maintaining positive relations.
  • Attend internal design review meetings in accordance with company protocols.
  • Work within agreed deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Grow and develop knowledge, experience and initiative.
  • Take responsibility for own development and CPD.

Qualifications

We are looking for an ambitious and self-motivated individual who meets the following criteria:

  • Keen interest in construction industry, buildings or water/ drainage systems
  • Competent with computers/ able to learn new software
  • Problem solver, able to offer solutions to challenges
  • Able to work and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Confident, articulate, collaborative & proactive
  • Eagerness to learn and to develop your skills and career with training support
  • Good time management and organisational skills to efficiently manage workload.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK and be able to demonstrate proof when requested.
