Reporting to the Vice President of Public Policy & Reimbursement, the Government Relations and Alliances Manager will assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing the public policy and advocacy priorities for the organization. This person is knowledgeable about the federal legislative process, as well as current issues impacting physicians and other healthcare providers in the U.S. (e.g., improving patient access to care, addressing reimbursement reform, and minimizing administrative burden). In this role, you will be tasked with representing the gastroenterology providers perspective on Capitol Hill, with policymakers and federal regulatory agencies, and through various coalitions. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and advance relationships with the offices of key Members of Congress to further the organizations mission and public policy goals. 
  • Monitor and track progress of federal legislation, identifying grassroots opportunities for the organizations membership to engage with their U.S. House Representatives and Senators. 
  • Understand the evolving issues and priorities of the organizations membership, which includes physicians, advanced practice providers, and other GI providers. 
  • Collaborate with members of the Policy and Communications teams to ensure success of advocacy campaigns. 
  • Work with and help to manage the organizations external public policy consultants. 
  • Serve as the organizations point of contact for federal and some state advocacy efforts, patient advocacy groups, specialty society coalitions, and other strategic partners. 
  • Serve as the staff liaison for the organizations committee related to public policy. 
  • Perform other duties as needed and as experience or interest may dictate. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years of experience on Capitol Hill. 
  • Knowledge of the federal legislative process. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs with database experience. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail. 
  • High-level organizational skills and the ability to follow through on projects. 
  • Must be able to multi-task, problem-solve, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with internal team members as well as external customers including physicians and other healthcare personnel. 
  • Experience with marketing / email software and medical societies or membership associations a plus. 

Work Environment and Benefits

  • Full time, Monday-Friday (9:00 5:00), flexible work hours, with occasional evening calls 
  • Hybrid work schedule (3 days at home, 2 days at office in North Bethesda, MD). 
  • Some domestic (2-3 times a year) and DC-area travel required. 
  • Benefits package including health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, and retirement plan.
  • The anticipated salary range for this role is $70,000 - $90,000 annually
