Purpose of the Job

Works on shift duty and monitors the operation of all electrical equipment including steam turbine and diesel generators in the Plants and BCT area. Takes immediate and proper decisions and necessary power changeovers independently during power interruptions. Trouble shoots all electrical problems reported in the plant in order to avoid plant shutdowns and carries out routine preventive and breakdown maintenance of
electrical equipment as required. Assists UAE National Developees in completing the training program and improving their skills after completion of training program.

Scope

  • Reporting to Senior Electrical Engineer (Site Section), Senior Power Operator is responsible for operation, troubleshooting and to carry out maintenance activities as required during the shift duty on all electrical equipment in the plants and facilities at Ruwais Site.

Job Description

  • Carries out the isolation and de-isolation of electrical components of mechanical equipment (i.e. pumps, compressors etc.) as required. Contacts Electrical incharge if isolations of major items are required, such as transformers, substation equipment, etc.
  • Operates emergency power steam turbine and effects load adjustments based on actual requirements independently on shift in coordination with Shift Controller and Urea &.Utilities Supervisor.
  • Coordinates with General Utilities Plant (GUP) Shift Engineer/Senor Operator for 33kV feeder changeovers.
  • Reports all major problems occurred during the shift to Senior Electrical Engineer / Electrical Supervisor and suggests remedial actions to be undertaken.
  • Records hourly readings of various operating parameters of steam turbine generators and power consumption of different sections of the Plant, such as monitoring and recording the quantity of power generated, temperatures, vibration of turbines and generators, steam consumption, steam temperatures, etc. Records all readings in the prescribed manner.
  • Carries out various preventive maintenance activities in accordance with schedule and supervisors instructions, such as the cleaning of battery terminals, topping up of the electrolyte, replacing silica gel, replacing recording charts, etc. Reports any anomalies to Engineer or Supervisor as observed.
  • Monitors and controls the operation of the electrical power generation and associated 11KV power distribution system through operation of the electrical power generation and distribution panel and independently synchronizes and desynchronizes steam turbo generator.
  • Checks and carries out routine breakdown maintenance which can be handled independently on shift, in accordance with safety practices. Replaces fuses, tube lights, circuit breakers, switches etc. Contacts Engineer or Supervisor for more serious faults and requests their assistance and direction.
  • Attends all electrical routine jobs independently in the Product Handling & Shipping operations areas in the Plant, especially for ship loading operations during second and third shifts, as significant financial penalties may result, if loading operations are delayed.
  • Coordinates with General Utilities Plant (GUP) personnel for the startup of large motors of 500KW capacity and above and problems such as power interruptions / fluctuations occurring during normal operations. Also shut down or starts steam turbine generators as required and attends to the periodic running of the diesel engine generator.
  • Ensures the smooth turnover of duties to the next shift by advising shift replacement of all important and routine matters pertaining to the electrical operations.
  • Assists UAE nationals in improving their skills in various tasks related to electrical jobs in this position as facilitator.
  • Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the Plant in accordance with strict adherence of all safety rules and regulations that pertain to his work.
  • Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Ensures full awareness on HSE & Business critical activities and demonstrate to the required level.
  • Ensures multiskilling (within department, wherever feasible and advised by line authority) to perform others jobs at same level, whenever required.
  • Ensures training requirements such as e-learning, in-house training etc. are completed as scheduled using HSE & AIPS training matrices.

Job Minimum Requirements

Education: Completion of Secondary (12 Years) education and a 3 years Diploma course in Electrical Engineering.

Work Experience: 8 years of experience operation and maintenance of electrical equipment and generator in a Fertilizer / Chemical or Hydrocarbon Plant.

Skills: 

  • Good knowledge in operation and maintenance of electrical equipment in Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Good knowledge in operation of steam turbine generator and diesel generator.
  • Familiar with electrical safety rules
  • Demonstrates front line HSE critical roles competence matrices related to attached technician electrical person profile.
  • Very good electrical equipment trouble shooting skills.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Good Computer skills in MS Office.
