About the job Corporate & Regulatory Associate: 5+ Yrs PQE | 12-months FTC | Int'l Law Firm | HKG
WHO
Our client is a leading international law firm whose Hong Kong office runs a well-regarded corporate and regulatory practice with a strong insurance sector following, advising insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries and other financial services clients across the region. Following a busy pipeline of regulatory and transactional work, the team is looking for a mid-senior level associate to join initially on a twelve-month fixed-term contract, with a genuine view to permanency following a review. The environment is supportive and unusually entrepreneurial for a firm of this standing: there are no billable targets, and the successful candidate will work directly alongside a highly regarded senior lawyer who has practised on both the private practice and in-house sides of the insurance market.
WHAT
The work splits roughly half regulatory and half corporate. On the regulatory side, you will advise insurance and financial services clients on licensing, conduct and compliance matters, including pensions service providers and fintech businesses, across Hong Kong and the wider region. Alongside that sits corporate commercial and restructuring work for insurer clients, together with M&A transactions where the market is busy. You will also have a real opportunity to help build the practice: the team's senior lawyer is actively growing the client base and wants someone genuinely interested in that journey rather than someone who simply executes what lands on their desk.
YOU
You will be Hong Kong qualified with at least 5 years' post-qualification experience. M&A experience is the priority; insurance regulatory experience is an advantage but can be learned on the job. Reading and writing Chinese is required. Candidates from in-house roles at insurers or other financial institutions, and from strong local Hong Kong firms, are very much encouraged to apply. An immediate or near-immediate start would be a distinct advantage, as would an entrepreneurial outlook and an appetite for career growth.
