In anticipation of increased demand for human resources professionals as we head into 2025, Star Anise, a leading legal and compliance recruitment firm based in Hong Kong, is inviting highly skilled Human Resource Advisors to register or get in touch with their updated CVs and to have the opportunity to be one of the first professionals to join one of our clients, primarily international law firms with a strong presence in China and the APAC market and leading in-house legal teams. As an HR Advisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting a firm's HR functions, ensuring the effective implementation of HR policies, and fostering a positive work environment. A successful HR advisor requires a proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of HR practices in an international law firm context.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide expert HR advice and support to senior stakeholders and employees on HR-related matters, including employee relations, performance management, and compliance with employment laws.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that align with the firms strategic goals.
  • Manage the recruitment and selection process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Coordinate and deliver training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career growth.
  • Oversee employee benefits administration and ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll.
  • Conduct regular HR audits to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support diversity and inclusion initiatives to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Handle employee grievances and disciplinary issues in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR databases.
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives to improve HR processes and enhance employee engagement.


Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a similar HR role, preferably within an international law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • High levels of fluency in English, with Cantonese and Mandarin (written and spoken) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the Hong Kong labour laws.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
  • Experience of liaising with the Hong Kong Law Society and applying for new/renewed practising certificates and handling CPD points, a distinct plus.
