Junior Commercial In-House Lawyer | 6-Month Contract

BACKGROUND
Our sister company, Yuzu (www.yuzu.com.hk) is an Alternative Legal Services Provider based in Hong Kong. It is seeking a highly motivated Junior Commercial Lawyer to join the sizeable in-house legal team of its client, a major western multi-national company. The role is a contract role lasting six months with the potential for the contract period to extend.
Working with lawyers who predominantly come from top tier law firms on the Mainland, the successful candidate will work on-site at our client's offices, and at their option in either Beijing or Shanghai.
This role involves reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts, including sponsorship agreements, TV, media, social media, and merchandise licensing agreements. Additionally, the candidate will conduct legal research, review and update contract renewals, and provide ad hoc and project support to senior members of the legal team. Candidates with IP commercialisation experience would thrive in this role. Commercial or corporate lawyers willing to work on a contract basis are also encouraged to apply.
WHAT
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts and ensure expiring contracts are reviewed as well as renewed or renegotiated.
- Conduct legal research and provide timely and accurate advice on various legal, compliance and corporate governance matters.
- Support senior legal team members with ad hoc tasks and projects.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to understand and address legal needs.
YOU
- PRC bar qualification (a current PRC bar licence is not required)
- 1-3 years of post-qualified experience working in a non-contentious commercial practice area, e.g. commercial, general corporate, or intellectual property (registrations, protection, licensing and commercialisation of trademarks, copyright, design right, branding, domain names)
- Substantial work experience at a mid-to-top tier international or domestic commercial law firm in mainland China (minimum 1-2 years)
- Native or high fluency in written and spoken Chinese/Mandarin
- Good English reading and writing skills
- Strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

AMAZING
- Experience of working on commercial licensing agreements or working on legal matters in the entertainment, sports, retail, or leisure industry is highly advantageous
- Strong analytical skills with a good commercial mindset
- Candidates who have studied overseas in an English-speaking jurisdiction is advantageous
- An additional legal qualification outside of Mainland China, such as the US or a common law qualification, whilst not mandatory, is also highly looked upon
