About the job Business Analyst II - Project-Based (Remote)

Job Title: Business Analyst II

About the Client:  Delivers managed IT and business technology solutions, specializing in printers, copiers, and print management for organizations nationwide.

Overview: The Business Analyst II serves as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and technical development teams across the company's internal platform ecosystem. This is a technically oriented Business Analyst role requiring a demonstrated understanding of API integrations, system architecture concepts, and software delivery pipelines—not just requirements documentation.

The Business Analyst II is expected to operate independently within an Agile delivery environment, contribute meaningfully to sprint ceremonies, write high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria, and maintain alignment across cross-functional teams.

This role supports multiple internal platforms and works closely with application administrators, the QA team, and internal development teams to ensure features are well-defined, technically feasible, and delivered with quality.

Responsibilities:

Requirements & Analysis

  • Elicit, document, and manage business and technical requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process analysis
  • Translate business needs into clear, concise user stories with acceptance criteria using behavior-driven formats (e.g., Given/When/Then)
  • Analyze current-state systems and workflows; identify gaps and propose future-state solutions
  • Document data flows, integration points, and system dependencies including API request/response behavior
  • Maintain traceability between business requirements, user stories, and test cases

Technical Collaboration

  • Engage directly with development teams to clarify technical requirements and validate that proposed solutions meet business needs
  • Review and contribute to API documentation, including understanding of REST/JSON payloads, request structures, error handling, and field mapping
  • Participate in technical design discussions; surface business impact of architectural decisions
  • Support integration analysis when third-party systems, APIs, or data sources are involved
  • Collaborate with QA to develop test scenarios; assist in UAT coordination and defect triage

Agile Delivery

  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies: sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Manage and maintain the product backlog in Azure DevOps (ADO), including Epics, Features, User Stories, Tasks, and Bugs
  • Contribute to sprint capacity planning; assist in effort estimation with development teams
  • Apply pull-based or flow-driven delivery principles; support release candidate readiness processes
  • Communicate sprint status, risks, and blockers clearly and proactively to stakeholders and leadership

Stakeholder Communication & Documentation

  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholder and technical teams
  • Produce audience-appropriate documentation: executive summaries, BRDs, SOPs, release notes, and process flows
  • Facilitate working sessions and demos; capture decisions and action items
  • Create wireframes and process diagrams to communicate requirements visually using tools such as Miro and Figma

Qualifications:

Required Skills

Technical & Systems Knowledge

  • API literacy: ability to read and interpret REST API documentation, understand request/response structures (JSON/XML), identify field mappings, and articulate integration behavior in requirements
  • Data analysis: comfortable working with structured data sets, identifying anomalies, and translating data findings into actionable requirements
  • Understanding of SDLC stages (Design, Development, QA, UAT, Release) and how BA work intersects at each phase
  • Familiarity with environment promotion concepts (Dev Test Stage Production) and release management practices

Requirements & Documentation

  • Proficient in writing user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and process flow documentation
  • Experience with Business Process Modeling
  • Ability to produce wireframes or low-fidelity mockups to support UI/UX requirements

Tool Proficiency

  • Azure DevOps (ADO): backlog management, sprint boards, work item hierarchy (Epics/Features/Stories/Tasks)
  • Microsoft Suite
  • Miro: process mapping, collaborative diagramming, brainstorming facilitation
  • Claude, Claude Design

Required Soft Skills

  • Communication excellence: ability to translate between technical language (developer) and business language (stakeholder) fluidly and accurately
  • Active listening and facilitation: skilled at running productive working sessions, drawing out unstated needs, and synthesizing complex input
  • Critical thinking: ability to challenge assumptions, identify edge cases, and ask the right questions beforecommitting requirements to development
  • Conflict navigation: comfortable holding a position on requirements scope, negotiating priority tradeoffs, and managing pushback diplomatically
  • Organizational discipline: strong ability to manage multiple workstreams, track open items, and deliver documentation on time without being micromanaged
  • Collaborative mindset: builds trust with developers, QA, and stakeholders; understands that BA success is a team outcome
  • Intellectual curiosity: proactively seeks to understand technical systems, data structures, and product logic — not just the business surface layer
  • Adaptability: thrives in dynamic environments with shifting priorities and evolving processes
  • Attention to detail: produces documentation that is precise, internally consistent, and unambiguous
  • Presentation & storytelling: able to structure complex information clearly for both working-level and executive audiences

Education & Certifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business— or equivalent professional experience
  • Preferred certifications (one or more):
    • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) — Scrum Alliance
    • PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)
    • IIBA Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP or CCBA)
    • SAFe Agilist or SAFe BA certification
  • 3–5 years of progressive business analysis experience in a technical or software delivery environment
  • Experience working with external development vendors or managed service providers is preferred

AI Knowledge & Tools - The BA II is expected to actively incorporate AI tools into daily workflows — not as a novelty, but as a productivity and quality standard. Candidates should demonstrate practical, hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted analysis, documentation, and communication.

    • Claude (Anthropic) — Preferred Platform
      • Proficient use of Claude for BA work tasks, including: drafting and refining user stories, and acceptance criteria; summarizing meeting notes and extracting action items; structuring complex requirements documents; generating first-draft SOPs and process documentation
      • Understands how to write effective prompts for Claude — providing clear context, specifying output format, iterating on responses, and validating AI output for accuracy and completeness

Schedule: Night Shift
