About the job Senior UI / UX Designer (Remote)

Job Title: Senior UI/UX Designer

About the Client:
A mission-driven organization providing safety, compliance, and risk management solutions for the agricultural industry. They support businesses through training, technology, and consulting services that help improve workplace safety, maintain regulatory compliance, and enhance operational efficiency.

Overview:
We are seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer to design intuitive, scalable user experiences for complex, data-heavy, and process-heavy web applications. This role will work closely with Product, Business Analysts, and Engineering teams to translate complex workflows, business requirements, and large amounts of information into clear and efficient user experiences.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer who can work independently with minimal guidance, bring strong UX and UI capabilities, and contribute to the broader design foundation of the product. This includes establishing scalable design patterns, reusable components, design systems, and standards that Product and Engineering teams can build from.

This role is best suited for a designer who can look beyond individual screens and think strategically about workflows, information architecture, usability, consistency, and the overall product experience.

Responsibilities:

UX & Product Design

  • Design intuitive user experiences for complex, data-heavy, and process-heavy web applications.
  • Translate complex business processes, requirements, and user needs into clear and efficient workflows.
  • Create end-to-end user flows, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Identify usability issues, workflow inefficiencies, and friction points, and develop practical design solutions.
  • Simplify complex information and processes into intuitive experiences that support user efficiency and clarity.
  • Consider edge cases, user roles, permissions, system states, and other factors that impact the overall experience.

UI Design & Prototyping

  • Create clean, consistent, and functional user interfaces for web-based applications.
  • Develop interactive prototypes to communicate and validate design concepts and workflows.
  • Define layouts, navigation patterns, interaction behaviors, and visual hierarchy.
  • Ensure designs are practical, scalable, accessible, and feasible for development.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure designs are implemented accurately and effectively.

Design Systems & Scalable Design

  • Build, maintain, and evolve scalable design systems, reusable components, patterns, and UI standards.
  • Establish consistent design patterns across screens, workflows, and product areas.
  • Identify opportunities to improve consistency and scalability across the product.
  • Create design documentation and artifacts that provide clear guidance for Product and Engineering teams.
  • Help establish the broader design foundation and standards that support future product development.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication

  • Work independently with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Engineering, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and design needs.
  • Participate in product discovery and collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
  • Clearly communicate design decisions, rationale, trade-offs, and thought processes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide design specifications, documentation, and assets needed for development.
  • Support Engineering during implementation by clarifying interactions, behaviors, and edge cases.
  • Review implemented features to ensure alignment with the intended design and user experience.

User Feedback & Continuous Improvement

  • Gather and incorporate feedback from users, stakeholders, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Validate design decisions through user feedback, testing, and iteration.
  • Use observed behavior and product data to identify opportunities for usability improvements.
  • Continuously refine workflows, interfaces, and design patterns based on real-world usage.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in UI/UX, Product Design, or a similar role, with demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Proven experience designing complex, data-heavy and process-heavy web applications.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant web application design work, particularly products involving complex workflows, significant amounts of data, dashboards, tables, forms, or similar interfaces.
  • Strong UX and interaction design skills, with the ability to simplify complex workflows and information into intuitive user experiences.
  • Strong UI design skills with an understanding of visual hierarchy, usability, consistency, and responsive web design.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and working with scalable design systems, reusable components, design patterns, and UI standards.
  • Ability to take ownership of design projects from discovery and workflow definition through prototyping, final UI, and implementation support.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound design decisions without requiring significant guidance from a more senior designer.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly explain design decisions, rationale, and thought processes.
  • Experience collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, Business Analysts, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of usability, accessibility, information architecture, and interaction design principles.
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative product development environments.
  • Familiarity with Figma and other modern design and collaboration tools.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Miro, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Experience in compliance-driven, regulated, or operationally complex industries is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of front-end development constraints and the ability to design solutions that are practical for implementation is a plus.

Portfolio Requirement:

  • A portfolio is required and must demonstrate relevant web application design work.
  • Portfolio examples should showcase the candidate's experience with complex workflows, data-heavy interfaces, UX problem-solving, prototypes, UI design, and/or scalable design systems.
  • Candidates should be prepared to explain their design process, decisions, and contributions to the projects presented.
