Job Overview:

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in automated modified atmosphere packaging machines and systems engineering. This role requires a strong understanding of flexible film tracking, heat sealing technologies, conveying systems, product handling, and scale systems. The ideal candidate will work in both development and production environments, ensuring the highest quality standards in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical and electromechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design and engineering efforts for new products, special projects, and customer orders.
  • Provide guidance to mechanical designers/drafters and oversee design documentation.
  • Utilize SolidWorks for design, data storage, and management.
  • Work with INFOR CRM software for Bill of Materials (BOM) creation and data integration.
  • Perform engineering calculations (e.g., mass/energy balance, load analysis, strength assessment) to ensure structural and functional integrity.
  • Select and specify mechanical components, materials, and instrumentation for new product designs.
  • Conduct quality and design conformance inspections on the manufacturing floor and provide technical direction to resolve configuration or performance discrepancies.
  • Utilize Excel for project management, developing macros and formulas to enhance efficiency.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in special projects that support the company's goals and initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5-10 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in capital equipment design and service.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD) for design documentation.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, fabrication, and component selection, particularly in the food processing and meat packaging industries.
  • Familiarity with washdown requirements, line integration, and scaling systems. Experience in flexible packaging or the packaging industry is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create macros and automation tools for enhanced reporting and efficiency.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel (up to 10%, including internationally).
