Mechanical Design Engineer

Our team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in high-speed automation and packaging systems. This role focuses on the design, specification, and testing of automated modified atmosphere packaging machines, including flexible film tracking, heat sealing technologies, conveying systems, product handling, and scale systems. The position involves working in both development and production environments, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical and electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and engineering efforts for new product development, special projects, and customer orders.
  • Oversee projects from concept and prototype development to full-scale production.
  • Utilize SolidWorks for design, data storage, and management.
  • Develop and manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) using MRP systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations for mass and energy balance, load analysis, and strength requirements.
  • Specify mechanical components, materials, and instrumentation to meet performance and compliance standards.
  • Conduct quality inspections on manufacturing floor work-in-progress and troubleshoot issues.
  • Research and integrate new technologies to enhance product quality and performance.
  • Use Excel and other software tools to streamline project management and optimize design processes.
  • Work both collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and independently when required.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives to support department and company goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7-10 years of experience in mechanical design within high-speed automation and packaging industries.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Strong project leadership skills with experience managing timelines and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and component selection, particularly in the food packaging industry.
  • Experience with washdown environments, line integration, and scaling systems; flexible packaging experience is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including macros and automation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel up to 10%, including internationally.
