Job Summary

As the Piping & Equipment Layout Lead Designer, you will lead the development of piping and equipment layouts for complex projects. Your responsibilities will include creating detailed equipment layouts, piping orthographic and isometric drawings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure designs align with client needs and project specifications. Additionally, you will oversee design tasks, manage costs, and ensure all designs adhere to industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of piping and equipment layouts for projects in the Process Chemical and Polymer industries.
  • Create piping orthographic, isometric, and stack-up drawings.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering teams to ensure seamless design integration.
  • Manage the design process at the project level, from concept development to detailed execution.
  • Prepare piping cost estimates during early project phases (e.g., FEED) and handle design scope adjustments.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Plant 3D and Navisworks to produce precise, high-quality design drawings.
  • Conduct field visits to gather design data, measurements, and verify accuracy.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to facilitate effective design implementation.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and technical documentation to support project teams.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards, project requirements, and regulatory guidelines for safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Mentor junior designers, offering guidance and constructive feedback for their growth.
  • Participate actively in project meetings and manage design changes with the project team.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Design, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • At least 15 years of experience in piping and equipment design, with a minimum of 5 years in a lead role within the Process Chemical and Polymer industries.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Navisworks software, with extensive experience in producing detailed piping layouts, stack-up drawings, and isometric drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience leading piping design for large-scale projects valued at $50M+ is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to effectively work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage project schedules, budgets, and cost estimates efficiently.
  • Hands-on experience conducting fieldwork to gather design information and ensure accuracy in project execution.
