Qualifications:
UTILITY WORKER - WATER/WASTEWATER/STREETS
- Some prior experience in Water Distribution, Sewer Collections and Street maintenance
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
Responsibilities:
- Works in the operation, repair, and maintenance of streets, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and other duties as assigned.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain water distribution systems, storm drains, sewer collection systems, and sewer lift stations. This position works in all aspects of the street maintenance department. Paving, patching, sign maintenance, concrete repair/installation, snow removal/sanding, etc. Perform labor involved in the construction and maintenance of water distribution: install, repair, and read water meters; exercise valves; install and repair water lines, standpipes, valves, pumps, etc.; perform water shut-offs and turn-ons; repair and install manholes and cleanouts; and clean debris from catch basins. Produce a variety of records and reports relating to these activities.
- Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to light and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, sewer cleaner, welders, etc.). Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use. Report defects or needed repairs to the lead worker or supervisor.
- On call is required for this position; be able to respond to after-hours emergencies within a reasonable time.
- Respond to various customer service requests and report findings to a lead worker or supervisor. Maintain good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to customer complaints.
- Develop and maintain cooperative and respectful work relationships with co-workers and supervisors. Use a utility locator service prior to any excavation.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Complete daily work activities according to work schedules. Measure, compute, and convert English and metric systems.
- Report public hazards (potholes, fallen street signs, water leaks, etc.) to the lead worker or supervisor.
- May assist other public works departments as needed.
