About the job Director of Marketing and Communications
We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Marketing and Communications. You are our ideal candidate if you have experience building brands in software, clean energy, or the public sector. You've worked hand in hand with both go-to-market teams and product development organizations. You've been hands-on, building brands, style guides, visual assets, and websites, and you also know when to pull in others to get a big initiative over the finish line. You can reprioritize quickly and focus on developing a comprehensive strategy or rolling up your sleeves and drafting a newsletter.
In this role, you will develop and execute strategies to expand the visibility and reach of SolarAPP+, managing the SolarAPP+ brand, content, website, newsletter, and social media. In this role, you'd be in charge of how SolarAPP+ is communicated and represented to our customers, stakeholders, and the media.
Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing and Communications Leadership: Develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy that aligns with the SolarAPP Foundation's mission, enhancing public and industry awareness of SolarAPP+ and its benefits.
Brand Ownership: Own the SolarAPP brand and any future derivatives of it, from its usage in marketing materials to consistency within the product's user interfaces.
Content Ownership and Development: Oversee the creation of compelling content, including newsletters, social media updates, web pages, and presentations. Produce visuals and assets that can scale and be leveraged by a broad team and coalition of partner organizations.
Website Development: Own the SolarAPP marketing website and develop and test strategies, including SEO, to improve how the website best serves SolarAPP's mission.
Outbound Communications: Set the strategy, tools, cadence, and process for emailing and messaging our users, prospective users, installers, and partner jurisdictions.
Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with partners, local government representatives, and industry stakeholders to develop targeted communications that highlight SolarAPP+s role in reducing permitting delays, lowering costs, and clean energy deployments.
Events and Speaking Engagements: Represent the Foundation at conferences, webinars, and public forums. Develop presentations and speaking points for the CEO and key team members.
Media Relations and Publicity: Build and maintain relationships with key journalists and industry influencers to secure impactful media coverage. Prepare press releases, op-eds, and responses to media inquiries, and serve as a spokesperson when needed.
Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably within the renewable energy, government technology, or nonprofit sector.
Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies.
Strong storytelling skills with experience translating technical information into accessible and engaging content.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
