The Telecommunications and Data Centre Support Section within the Infrastructure and Operational Support Branch of DFAT's Information Management and Technology Division has a requirement for an ICT labour hire resource to fill the role of Radio Frequency Engineer. The RF Engineer will work with other DFAT officers, or independently, to support, design and implement RF systems.
Key duties and responsibilities
Job Specific role description
- Manage and assist with DFAT radio frequency (RF) solutions for DFAT. The role will also assist with fault resolution, requirement gathering, capability and solution design, installation and integration of RF solutions.
- Responsibility for scoping, design, set up, tuning/calibration and functional checks of RF devices and software, following maintenance schedules and using appropriate tools and test equipment. Integrating hardware/firmware modifications, implement communication systems and elements in accordance with standards. The role also requires support of automatic fault/performance indications and fault resolution and/or escalates according to given procedures.
- Ability to investigate and resolve system-wide fault conditions using a wide range of diagnostic tools and techniques. Reconfigure equipment to circumvent temporary outages. Specifies, selects and integrates RF devices in a system. Defines internal communication protocols for transmission over the available frequencies. Reconfigures devices and software to optimise performance.

Criteria

Essential criteria
- 1. Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of RF, RF systems design, and the operation of RF equipment.
- 2. Experience and knowledge in implementing RF (UHF, VHF, HF) and microwave systems, from design, integration, and support.
- 3. Verbal communication skills and the ability to lead and work effectively in small to medium sized teams, including cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
- 4. Preparing technical and project documentation including design reports, test procedures, and performance analyses.
- 5. A minimum NV1 security clearance is required, consideration will be given to the ability and willingness to upgrade beyond an NV1.
